I am looking at a 96 3/4 ton with a 5 speed. Is there anything I should be looking for? It has 72,000 miles and never has been run in the winter.

Lottery ticket?
You are lucky to find a 96 with those miles, much less a 5 speed one.
Killer Dowel Pin will need to be checked/fixed, 5th gear sometimes backs off in the trans, other than that, they are pretty solid. Probably the second best year ever, right behind 97.

I personally reccommend having it fully inspected by a reputable mechainc prior to purchase. Also make SURE to carfax that unit as (just being honest here) the miles seem a little too low to be true. Lots of damaged/repo'd/rebuilt title trucks out there, not to mention odo rollbacks.
But...if it check out, quit waiting and get it purchased. You'll have a rare bird, indeed. Good luck!

Modern veichles are at thier best when they are driven and maintiained regurarly. While the engine might still go a long ways, your seals, and other associated flexible componets may have hardened up over time.
Why not get it out and drive it a bit? Enjoy your rig...it's not like you are going to stave off depreciation letting it sit.

I have a '96 with 55,000 miles. A woman that had show horses hauled them to shows a couple of times a year and that's the only time she used it. I wish she would have kept it out of the sun though cause the finish on the hood and roof went bad on it. Totally stock except pac brakes. Automatic too...
