Robert, I know i saw those wheels in the classifieds on this site or the other site that I frequent, you might look into that. My internet is to slow or I would fine them for ya.

 

Go with a larger tire that puts you in a suitable range for towing in 5th.

Even the 285s are mine are sometimes a pain on the highway. With 70 being there around 1800, any slower pushes you to the low end of the sweet spot and causes it to lug. For most towing where I can up the speed, it's not bad. But when loaded up heavy, I find myself in 5th much more often.

 

Man.. not the definitive I needed from you! ... May just need to suck up the looks and drop back to a 265... Almost wish I would have never tried them!! That way I wouldn't know how great they wre!

 

Come on now....1st gear works wonders for getting things moving.

I get along with mine fine since most of my heaviest loads follow FM roads where I'm running 50-55 anyway, so running 5th is perfect. With a load of cattle or something else where I hit the highway, I can do 6th easily, but it's not the same as the heavy load of hay.

Are you planning for hay loads, or something a little lighter?

 

BTW...saw that Brian gots props over on CompD for his shipping methods on the 12V block.

I guess if construction tanks, you have a future in the shipping business.

 

Yep looked at some pictures.... has to be a 285.. really like the stance of your truck... leveling kit in the front on yours??

Rickson 19.5''s????????? I'd sure love a set. I'd love to have 5 good used ones.....I could even get them sandblasted and powdercoated like my current OEM 3rd gen wheels.

I don't think I have ever seen an ad for them. Never see them on Ebay.
I figured I'd just have to order a set from Rickson ....plus pay a huge shipping bill if I wanted a set bad enough.

As expensive as the wheels/tires are....I wonder how much more they really cost over the long run....since they should?? run about twice as long as regular tires. and how would the empty ride be when not towing?

Robert, I am not sure if they are "Ricksons" but they look almost identical and same size, I think the story on them was that the guy had to get rid of them cuz his gal did not enjoy the way it rode. maybe?

Ill try and find the add, might have been on CompD , I have been looking for two rims and tires to desiginate as a donut set, thats how I ran across them.

No leveling kit...still tossing around the idea. I like the stance of mine when it's loaded, because it drops the back end to be level. But I'm not a fan of the rake when it's empty.

But I figure with a leveling kit up front, I'll always end up "dragging tail" when I put a load on. Air bags could solve this, but it's more money than I want to lay out right now.

 

Yup... much better look! If I towed as heavy as you guys, I want the 16", E rated 285's ....3,750 lbs!
