OK, I'm in Long Island working all night (read: watching SQL scripts run), so I'll keep the thread warm till someone comes around in the morning.

Now I'll have to see if I have enough reading over 4 forums or if I need to sign up for some more to occupy my time.

Only 32* outside right now. It was colder in Carrollton last night than it was here.

Well, Justin - here's something to while away the time with...

For the 6.7L's HE351VE turbo, the actuator is operated by a 3-phase brushless DC motor - using a Freescale control chip run by an ST microprocessor on the circuit board - so you can't just adjust an aftermarket/Radio Shack-special PWM module to manipulate the vanes as if a stepper motor was used. There's 6 MOSFETS on the 5-layer board which control the motor chip as well as a serial bus EEPROM containing (useful?) program data, and 3 Hall-effect sensors for vane position feedback. The CAN bus for the turbo should be able to be manipulated via MS if the EEPROM's code can be successfully hacked.

So, my question is: what's the best way to command one of these? Any hope for a hardware box, or - considering the nature of the load & control circuitry - is it better to just change the code protocols?

Thanks for any light you can shed into this cave of ignorance!

I would ditch the electronics and just tie a piece of baling wire to the actuator, then hook this to a pull cable in the cab. It will be right next to my pull cable for my hand operated exhaust brake.

Or have Rob hack it for me.

I'm bringing my air mattress and sleeping bag.

BrIan, do I need to bring anything else beside drinks and snacks and my angle drill?
