Question Wondering about camper weight, etc..

Hi everyone,

I am debating on purchasing an old 10' camper that weights about 1800lbs for my 97 2500ctd and am wondering if it can handle that weight ok or would I need to get airbag system? I was told it has the 1 Ton drivetrain but springs maybe are not I am not sure.

I expect the fuel consumption and handling around town will all suffer too but by how much?

This is my first CTD and I have never owned a full size camper either so have no past experience so could use some advice/input.

Thanks Everyone for reading.

You'll most likely need the air bags or maybe the 3500 overload spring set. I'd probably go with air bags because they'll be adjustable.

My 1999 Dodge 3/4 was very unstable with 10' bed camper. It was an Amerigo which was pretty heavy, but still, scary. It was a nothing on my 1 ton dually. I would definitely go with air bags and stiff shocks - - helped my 3/4.

Luckily you've got the 5-speed. The brakes on the 2nd gens are iffy. An eb would correct that. Suspension improvements would help a lot too. It's gonna be a Tiltin' Hiltin'.

Carried a 3000 lb camper on a '90, '92, and;97 all dually's. Carried it ona '98 single wheel and it was tippy, put on the Ride Right air bags and it really drove good.
