Wind Deflector

Has anyone tried a wind deflector to help with airflow over their rv? I am thinking of purchasing one to help with my travel trailer. At least help deflect some of the bugs! Do these really help with mileage?

Do a search, you will find that the consensus say no mileage increase. It does help with the bugs.

Pulling a 31' BOX down the highway?? Yeah, good for bugs only. Tried a stainless Turbo Wing on my '99 - decreased mileage no matter whether it was up or down.

I think you need to consider what you are pulling. My fiver is streamlined in the nose - - why add another wind obstruction. Plus, it is another thing to mess with when hooking up, unhooking and you can't easily take it off when not towing - - meaning, no matter what position it is in it will add some wind resistance. I will just clean off the bugs, thankyou.

Im with that too, all I have found with mine is a reduction in bugs, and scratches on the roof of my truck.

With a flat front like my last trailer I found about a half mile to the gallon increase and about 5 miles to the gallon decrease when solo. You have to clean the bugs off either the deflector or the trailer. Either way you are cleaning the same amount of bugs. With this trailer I found no effect on fuel mileage and sold it.

I think most people feel it moves the bug line further up the trailer.
Best thing to improve mileage is slow down, to 55, if you can live with that. Air up all tires to the max, as well.

If mileage is what your after look at a propane system, I've had mine on for a couple months now and finally getting some highway miles and I'm very happy with it. I've never really heard good things about wind deflectors.
