weight distrubution hitch
weight distrubution hitch
Basically how do they work? What i can see from seeing pictures is a hitch that mounts to the toung rails and then bolts to your reciever? I dont see any benifit here? So please enlighten me
OK, I'll take a shot at this. A WD hitch has spring bars that attach solidly to the receiver and by chains to the trailer frame. By tensioning the bars, they apply a forward torque to the hitch. This takes some of the load off the rear tires of the tow vehicle and shifts some weight to the front wheels and some to the trailer wheels, hence the term "weight distributing". Imagine a spring loaded hinge, where the ball is the pivot point. The advantage is that the truck and trailer become a more integrated unit and the leveling effect of the spring bars. Hope this helps.

Reese or somebody did an ad where I think they took a front wheel drive Olds Toronado and hooked up a trailer with the Weight distribution hitch and took off the back tires and drove it around. RFCOM great explenation, even I understood it!
