Looking for a utility trailer to haul my Kawasaki Mule between MD & AL on a regular basis. Is there a preferred model/brand that is recommended or a make to stay clear of? Would prefer a single axle, but open to suggestions.

 

Look around for a local welding shop that still makes trailers. Then have an axle that is twice what you need installed. You will pay more, but be broke down less.

The commercial stuff is pretty poorly made and the axles and bearings are Chinese now days.

 

I second what RCW said, and tell the welder/shop what your doing and how far your going with it. I tend to stay away from single axle trailers unless they stay local.

They offer an excellent utility trailer with drop down ramp. May cost a little more, but no rust or painting, plus light weight. Many styles to chose from.

 

I have a single axle 8 X 12 made by Wells Cargo that I bought in VA. I have no complaints about the construction.

OOPs, it is a 6 X 12, rated at 3990 pound GVWR.

 

If you can find a trailer with 1 Dexter 3000lb axke & brakes, I think you should be OK. If it is built for 3k, it should hanle what you need. You may want to get a 16' tandem, as those are very common and most come with Dexter. You can use it for other projects & moving that always comes along.
These cab be had under $1k.

 

I've got a 5X10 tilt bed I've had for nearly 20 years. It's big enough to haul small loads, has enough weight capacity to haul small heavy loads (3500 pound axle) and is small enough to fit perfectly right behind SRW trucks. It's almost the same exact width as my '84 that usually hauls it. I think if I replaced it, I would get a tail ramp. Mine is modified with a small winch on the nose.

 

I'd get an enclosed trailer that will haul two and a half quads. Its still small enough to move around easy and big enough to haul all your gear. Tools, riding gear, ammo, guns, camping stuff. Whatever you need for your trips is not going to blow away its out of site and always there because you can leave it in the trailer.
