I am about to buy my first 5th wheel. Am going to try to find a used hitch. Unsure of what 5th wheel, just about a 30-32ft bunkhouse. What am i looking for in a hitch? It is going on a 2002 3500. any help is appreciated.

I have a B&W goose neck, with the companion. You do have to climb up onto the bed rail to lock it, but I like having the open bed (no rails), when I remove the 5er hitch.

Since you have a long bed, it really doesn't matter what hitch you get. You wont need a slider which means the only important variable left is making sure the hitch capacity is enough for the gross combined trailer weight. If you want to get fancy then you can look for air ride hitches or hitches that utilize the gooseneck ball slot, like B&W. But.....in regards to using a gooseneck "adapter" which turns your 5th wheel into a gooseneck, you may want to look into that much more since using a gooseneck adapter can seriously damage a 5th wheel. Reason is that most 5th wheel kingpin boxes are not designed to handle the additional stress leverage created by a gooseneck adapter. It can break kingpin box welds and cause trailer frame damage. Sometimes all going unseen too. Most 5th wheel companies will automatically void the warranty if you install a GN adapter. That may not be a problem with a used or old trailer but is still something to consider.

I use a Husky 16k slider, (short box) the best info I can give is make sure the hitch swivels both front to back and side to side, makes it so she wont bind if the truck and trailer are uneven when connecting and disconnecting.
