Truck to high for 5ver

If the suspension on the 5'er is like on my GN, a small amount of "out of level" will not matter. That is until the axle, either front or rear, bottoms out on the suspension (the equalizing arms go all the way one direction hard against the frame). The axles are set up to equalize the load but only to a certain extent.

I had a flat on the GN out in Stony Creek, fortunately running unloaded, and I just pulled the tire off and threw it in the truck and drove home like that with the axle hanging. It was only about 40 miles.

I personally believe that a trailer out of level does not pull as well so when I load a tractor, usually about 8000 pounds, I pull it on the trailer till it levels up. I try to keep most of the load over the axles usually. My dump trailer pulls terrible if the guy doesn't load it so it stays reasonably level.

Just my opinion.

Yep I hear ya I had the same thing as Top on my boat trailer, My boat is 38' and I was carrying mine high in the nose and popping tires like crazy. I am not sure how much of a differance it really is but I can tell you this my boat and the trailer roll across the scales at just at 12,000 lbs and when I blew the rear tire the only way my 3 ton floor jack would lift the rear axle was to un hook the truck and lower the nose way down and then it would pick it up so I know for a fact that it does change, again not sure how much but it was enuff....

You must be high enough to bottom out the suspension on the rear axle.

Well I was only about 5 or 6 inches high, if I had been high enuff to bottom it out I would have drug the out drives off.......

Maybe bottom out is a bad term. I'd have to go to the Redneck book to get a pic to show you what I'm talking about.

If you look on page 2 of the link, the little swivel in the middle is what I am talking about bottoming out. This little swivel lets the axles equalize load to a certain extent.

If you have axles like on page 3, then I can see how the one axle would overload since there is no swivel.

In Jack's case, the cure would be to jack up the trailer and lower the axles using the method mentioned above. Some extra cross bracing may be required for the extra height. The extra steel was put on my GN when I ordered it and told them what I was going to pull it with.

Could be, but then again boat trailer may be a little different than other???? it was a triple axle. I got rid of that one and got a Myco tandem/dual wheel one. Much better. On my rv it is a triple axle and I have noticed that to change a tire on it that it really help to do the same thing.

The triple axle would be even worse since the axles are spread out more over the length of the trailer.
Triple axles are on page 4 of the link.

BTW, I scoped out the pics of that boat. Sweet toy. Blown 575's!!!! Dare I say fuel economy is not a concern here?

I didn't even look. Guess I should have said Redneck Trailer in the last post eh?

Yeah, I know what you mean about the gas. That's like buying a Lamborghini and asking how much the tires cost.

I always heard, If you gotta ask, you can't afford it.
I used to buy scale model B61 Mack trucks (about 54 of them) from a guy in Wisconsin who had triple 575's in his. I asked him one time how many inches of that boat did my purchases finance?

Man 3 of em it is all I can do to feed the 2 I got...............running at say 70-75 it will burn about 1-1.5 gallons to the miles............kick it up to say 90-95 that goes up to about 2.5-3

Yes sir nothing sounds like a pair of well feed Big Blocks thru open pipes..........it is a sweet thing to hear.............and when you got em wound up they really sing...............I do love my boat Or so my says I love it more than I do her I am waiting now for my new truck to show up so I have something else to sleep in
