Truck Camper Wiring Fault Code?
Hey Guys:
I just bought a 2007 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab 5.9. I'm setting it up for my slide-in Northstar Truck Camper.
I'm installing Happijacs, Air Lift Bags w/ dual controller, and doing the wiring myself. I did all the work on my 2000 Dodge Ram with no problems. An installer at Ketelsen's in Denver told me if I spliced-in to the wiring for the in-bed 7-pin connector (as I did before); the computer could fry or throw a code. He said if I bought his T-harness (for $90) and did the install, it would be fine. I spoke with an installer at Nolan's RV in Westminster who said they simply splice in with "quick-splice" connectors and haven't had any problems. This is how I did the last job and was what I was planning on doing again. But, the guy at Ketelsen's has me wondering about throwing a code, or messing with the truck's computer somehow. The logic makes no sense to me because a connection is a connection, but do you guys have any experience with this?
BTW. I'm only splicing in for tail, L-turn, R-turn, and backup lights. I'm pulling power off an isolator mounted next to the battery so I don't get voltage drop.
Thanks,
Reeder

The t-harness connects to the trailer wiring, so he's right about using it since its safer ( no mistakes).
It's ok to splice into the harness, just make sure you splice into the trailer wires and not the tail-light wires.

Makes sense. I'm thinking I might just plug into the 4-way at the bumper (behind the 7-way), run those wires back to where I need them and run a separate power and ground. Should be pretty easy. Thanks.
