Trip

We are going on our first extended trip with our new truck, leaving on Thursday for 4-6 weeks. No schedule, no reservations, no set destination. Will give my report on the truck and the 48RE when we return. I will miss the forum but will enjoy our Spring-bird trip.

Ken - - I'm jealous, boy - - I'm really jealous. Wish I could be right behind you. Things are slowing me down, so we don't get the Alaska trip this year. So, planning on a 4 weeker toward the end of the summer.

Hold it in the road and have a great and safe trip. Pat that little Cummins once in a while for all of us.

JealousBob

Re:Trip

We just returned from our trip. Had to come back early due to medical problem within family. Had intended to be gone for 4 to 6 weeks and only got 22 days. We departed Biloxi with first major stop in Darien GA. Toured that area and then to Beaufort SC and then Charleston SC. Next we ended up in Pigeon Forge TN when our trip was cut short. Truck did fine job of towing with one comment on the 48RE concerning the jerky shifting especially when towing. The other comment I have is what has been discussed previously concerning the roaring fan when the AC is on. I still don't understand that and do not like it. Other than those two comments the truck did a great job of towing my rig and running solo touring. MPG summary appears below.

Towing
Miles Gals Type of Driving
254 19.223 speed 52/60-65
110mph/144mph
185 15.0 speed 60mph
104 7.251 speed 60mph
110 7.27 speed 60mph
80 6.69 speed 60mph
174 14.108 speed 55-65mph
Hills
203 15.836 speed 55-60mph
mountains 6-7%
174 12.708 speed 65mph
150 12 speed 65mph
285 21.61 speed 60-65mph
1719 131.67 = Ave mpg 13.06

SOLO

Miles Gals Type of Driving
90 4.50 City & Area Darien
118 5.90 City & Area Beaufort
143 8.34 City & Area Charleston
205 12.26 Cades Cove & Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg Area

556 31 = Ave mpg 17.94

Truck starting mileage 2017
Truck ending mileage 4292
Difference 2275

Oil usage is just a tick below the start point when new with none being added. Maybe 1/6 of a quart. Truck has plenty of power with my rig and pulled most all hills in overdrive. Could not have done that with my previous 1996 CTD with 3.54 rear axle.
