Trailer Wiring Harness

Got a question for you guys... On the following round 7-pin hitch connector, the circled terminal is for the parking lights.

(courtesy of http://www.accessconnect.com/trailer_wiring_diagram.htm)

1) Does that wire that I circled become hot at any time other than when the parking lights are on? (like when the brakes or turn signals are applied but parking lights are off?)

2) Or more importantly, does it go cold when the brakes or turn signals are applied while the parking lights are ON?

3) Anyone know how it's wired in our trucks? Where does that wire lead if I follow it under the hood? Cause it doesn't work on mine and I've checked all the fuses, they're all good!

it is hot only when the parking lights are on. no it does not go cold. check the wire at the plug to see if it is hot the plug has a bad habit of giving problems if this is where it's at when you change it out use electrical grease on the new one, i will look at our 96 tomorrow but i think that wire go's to a relay in the under the hood box

Also make sure you are checking the right contact. The diagram above is the truck plug as viewed from the back or inside. If looking outside where you plug in then it is mirror imaged.

Ok great. So if it goes to a relay, any idea where it would be located? I went ahead and rewired that one wire. I used a relay to run connect it straight to the pos. battery terminal when the parking lights are activated.

I noticed that as well, but good point.

I've got a similar problem going on with my 2 horse straight load adams trailer. I have accessory/battery charge, brake lights and turn signal lights will come on when I hit the brakes or turn signal...but no running lights. I've checked every fuse in the box and all of them check out as good. Since I have the accessory/battery charge/brake and turn signals when I hit them, i guess my ground on the trailer is good.

kinda out of ideas at the moment.

Rogers - Your park lights run through main fuse 15 (50a), then to the park lamp relay, then through fuse 33 (20a), then out of the TIPM as an 18ga Brown wire to connector C216 pin 3, then to pin 5 of the add on trailer tow connector, then to pin 3 of the 7-way receptacle.

Connector C216 should be located on the middle left side of the frame near the drivers door.

If no fuses are blown. (check them don't just look at them) Your problem is most likely the relay or a loose connection.
