Trailer Tires

I have a 34 ft tongue pull RV trailer. It came with totally inadequate tires, and I changed them out. I found some tires in Texas, Primex 700.15. A 14 ply rated bias ply tire. They take 105 pounds of pressure, and hardly squat at all when I drop the load on them. STIFFl
But don't get a flat or blowout. Nobody heard of them, can't find them, nobody has them. I blew out near Beatty NV, an called Reno, Las Vegas, Bakersfield Ca, and Sacramento. NO ONE had them.
No one heard of them, no one ever even heard of 14 ply trailer tires.
I finally contacted the manufacturer ( A company based in Israel that makes really heavy industrial tires) and they shipped a par from Nashville TN to Pahrump NV, which was 75 miles from where I was sitting.
I love these tires, but I was frustrated trying to replace them. I know a lot of guys use 10 ply truck tires, I do too. these are supposed to be stronger, but if I had had truck tires on it, I would have been back on the road in 45 minutes.

a suggestion for your next tire. I went with Hankook FJ19. They are 14 ply rated hold 110 lbs. Happy with them so far. nock on wood they have a decent availabilty. not like truck tires but have called a few places and some carry or can get the next day in most cases. After 4 sets of truck tires blowing in a year i'm done with truck tires on my RV.

Down here in Texas we all run those Hankooks on our trailers. They are about as good as you can get

the 14 ply tires are G rated switch to a 16" rim and find a G rated radial LT tire about the same height as your old. the LT has a higher safety margin than the ST. there is many more choices for the 16"

This is the first time I have ever heard of anybody having a problem with truck tires on their RV. I switched to 16'' LT truck tires (bf goodrich commercial LTs) on my Toyhauler 3.5 years ago and never had a problem.

I have had BFG Commercial LT tires on our 12k 5th wheel for three years now. The crap Chinese ST tires that came on the trailer did not last 5k miles before two started to seperate. I also run a TPMS on the trailer tires.

I removed the original Good year wranglers last year for my 99 fiver . They had about half tread left but were starting to crack around the threads. I replaced them with Michelin E rated and saw an improvement in towing and ride. They seemed to tow much easier and rode better. I don`t think I will ever wear these out or have any issues with blow outs. I think 14 ply tires are over kill and would never use them . I have plans to add air pressure monitors for my trip next year. four months on the road will be our first trip of many I hope.

Trailer Tires

I just changed my 37 Montana tires this week. I had Goodyear Marathon 235/80/16 made in china and had a lot of problems at about 6000 miles. I one blow out and 3 tires with broken belts. I went with Goodyear G614 RST 235/85/16. I have heard some good write ups about the tires and decided to change ,after the blow out I didn't feel very safe any longer. Goodyear worked with me on the changed out and pro rated the tires and paid me what I paid for the one that blew out. The G614 are made in the USA and are 14 ply and G rated.

And they stand behind their tires - - completely unlike Michelin. Don't want problems, but if they happen and it is not road damage related, Goodyear will honor their warranty and cover any possible damage to the trailer. Much prefer the ST tires to my LT's - - much heavier, stiffer and better rating. I am running the G614's on a 16K pound rig.

I run Bridgestone Duravis R250's on my Cyclone 3950 toy hauler.
Full steel cap like the Michelin XP Rib and Goodyear G614, highway tread and re-groovable.

But much more reasonable in cost - about $200 each.

I mind-effed these tires for a long time, they're highly regarded on the RV forums, I haven't found a bad review yet.

Well said
I learned the HARD way to NEVER NEVER again use ST tires.
Michelin LT`s have been good to me
Some times YOU GOTTA go over 60 mph.
