Trailer Hitch class ??? 14k is there one

Hello, I have a 97 dually, I would like to pull a 14k tag trailer, but have not found any hitches that will handle that. Whats the solution?

I have a Putnam Class V hitch on my 05 (I think they have one for your truck that is very similar) The hitch is rated up to 16,000 lbs with a weight distribution setup or 15,000 without. I tow a 35' 14,000 lb bumper pull enclosed car haluler and the hitch works great and is by far worth every penny. You have to cut off part of the factory hitch and the new Putnam bolts into the old hitch and the frame. I'd highly recommend a WDH hitch if you are towing an enclosed trailer. I have a 14k equalizer WDH and it pretty much eliminates any sway and makes the truck tow very smooth. I think the Putnam was around 250 and the WDH around 500. By the way I think the hitch is called the Putnam Class V XDR.

Ya thats what I am looking for. The number for putnam has been disconnected, check some other sites and out of stock. I don't think they make that one anymore. I have found one, says low stock, don't know how old the page is, but maybe they will have it.

I do not believe Putnam is in business anymore. We used to distribute their product.

I put a Putnam on my old 2nd gen truck. No need to cut the old factory hitch. Just remove it and toss it then install the new one.

Try Torklift.com, I believe they're rated to 17,000lbs. Had one on my '02, remove the factory hitch and bolt on the new one.

Putnam XDR is 15,000 without WD. If you can still find a dealer with one, they are a great hitch.

Yes, I can attest to the rating! I have one, although I have yet to fully load it...most was ~7k, towing my buddies sand car behind the camper.

I think the factory 3rd gen class IV reciever is rated for 10k or 12k with WDH (I would assume the factory 2nd gen would be very similar) But honestly after looking at the hitches I wouldn't trust much over 8k on those hitches if you tow frequently. I've seen too many cracked.

It's a few more dollars to replace the rear bumper, but this one gets you a 20,000 lbs tow rating, and 6,000 lb tongue weight!!!
