Trailer brake
I'm currently using a Hopkins Impulse and think I paid around $70 for it. It does the job pretty well. I've used a Tokenshaw in a previous truck and was happy with that one too. The only thing I'm not in love with on the Hopkins is that it only has a single adjustment for initial braking and then it does it's own figuring for additional stopping power. Sometimes I'd like to increase the power sent after initial. The first Hopkins I put in this truck went bad after about two months. I noticed the brake lights were stuck on on the truck one day after work. I traced it back to the trailer brake controller. Called up Hopkins and they took it back and shipped another one out ASAP no questions asked. I was very happy with that, anyone can get a bad egg in the carton but it's how you respond to it that shows how good a company is. So, for the price, I'm happy with it. You can get a lot more expensive controllers out there but I guess, myself, I'd be happy sticking the extra dough toward an exhaust brake.

The Brakeman Digital is about as close to having manual control you can get. It's not momentum or direction modulated. You set it and it gives you what you ask for. The drawback of course is you get that output whether you are going uphill or down, stopping fast or stopping slow. I have a Prodigy now but haven't used it much. Still on the learning curve.
