Towing for newbie
Let me ask a general question I just bought a 1998.5 24 and what I believe non 53 after checking everywhere for a stamp. The truck is in great shape 40k I check carfax for info on and what looks to be garaged. If you where me beside the obvious elect brakes, possible exhaust brake (I live in n. calif next Sierras) what would you members do to help improve the towing and longevity of my new/used ride and what can I expect to see in as problems for this model 2500 laramie towing a 8-9 k 5th.
Thanks and Hello

shouldnt need much but we need more info like what tranny do you have?if you havnt bought a break controller yet i would got the prodigy it should be a plug and play for your truck.other wise you shouldnt need much and im sure you will find a lot of help here.
Watch your rpm's towing, if your light on the throttle the torque converter will lock up at too low of an rpm and cook itself (had it happen). You can control it with the button on the shifter.
I would put in some gauges (trans temp and egt), maybe an edge ez box, and free flow intake. That combo worked well for me on my 98.5.

Look into better lighting. The headlights suck the more weight you've got the better you need to see. If you're running over 88 I'd put on a cow catcher for all the deer on the road.'
Good luck
Good luck
Mirrors? I used clamp on extensions on my '98. Until I bought the '06 with factory towing mirrors I thought they were OK. Now I realize I should have swapped the '98 mirrors early on. Just something to think about.
