Question 32' Cougar Camping 5th wheel? (axel cap.?)

Any body have any expirience with Cougar trailers? My Father in law has one and he is trying to find out what the axle capacitiy is and what the trailer weighs. He loads it down pretty heavy and the tires don't ride like I think they should, it is a tandem axle with single wheels. It has no manual or stickers. No plates that can be seen.

Any ideas? The wheels seem to bend when loaded, toe out at the bottom. Is this normal?

It really depends on a few factors such as the nominal wall of the axle beam, spindle type, and the amount of studs on the axle. But generally a 5 lug can be a 2000 or 3500 lbs axle, a 6 lug can be a 3,500 - 6,000 lbs. axle, and an eight lug can be a 7,000 - 8,000 lbs axle. Also if you run 10" brakes it is a 3,500 lbs. axle and 12" brakes are usually 5,200 - 7,000 lbs axles and so forth. I hope this helps.

It really varies between the models, but most Cougars don't have alot of cargo capacity. You haven't seen a sticker or plate, have you looked in all the cabinets? The axles probably have a tag on them as well.

My 32'7" Cougar fiver weighs 8675 empty and has 1860lbs of cargo capacity.

If hes running with full tanks and loading the trailer pretty heavy, more than likely hes way overloaded. Both axles and tires more than likely.

Even when loaded to the full 10,500+ lbs of GVWR on my trailer, the wheels and tires are nice and true.

He really needs to run it across a scale, before something bad happens.

Thumbs down

We will have to crawll around it some more. Maybe we can find a plate that we missed. I agree on the scales. The axles just look to light for the trailer and cargo he packs in there. He is a powerjoke guy and new to trailers, he jumped right into a 32 footer and an F-250 7.3. He has no expirience! He ripped the lower pop-out fender/trim off on a guide post in an RV park! Oh well, more money than brains!!

The axle decal should be on the driver's side front, down low. A weight chart should be in the kitchen cabinets.
