I have a 7'x20' Cargo trailer with maybe 700 lbs of items in it. At 65 MPH I'm getting 12.2mpg hand calculated boost is between 6-7lbs and EGTs are 800-900ish Is this pretty normal i havn't pulled with my truck much im not complaining i think the mileage is pretty good.

I'm getting around 12 mpg pulling a 10K 32' FW. Boost around 10 - 15 and EGT's around 900* - 1000*. RPM's around 1900. Loves it a lot better at 70 mph/2100 RPM. Doesn't seam to work as hard when approaching any inclines.

It's relative to the shape of the trailer, the climate & terrain at a given road speed.

When the trailer matches the truck for heighth & width the mpg will be best. It may not fit your plans, but just cutting the trailer down in height will make the biggest difference (short of owning an aerodynamic trailer).

One test is the percentage drop from solo miles over the same route. If it's between a 30-40% drop in order to tow an enclosed trailer (same speed) that's actually a pretty good number. In excess of 40% then not so. (Given level terrain).

Last week, 11.7 hand calculated for the 600 mile trip from Sacramento to San Diego towing 13.5K 5th wheel. 55-60MPH. Speed is the key to MPG when towing.

Worst I get is 11.5 and best has been 12.1 so it's pretty consistent.

The same route empty its around 105 miles and i can do it in about 5 gals or a little more so it took me 9 gallons pulling my trailer its rolling hills for most of the route

I could tow my old mid profile fifth wheel at 7k pounds in the hills of Arizona and get 12.5 mpg... in the flats I would average 14.5.

I'm curious what I'll get with my newer full profile 10k fth wheel. First trip is scheduled in 1 week.

I got 9.5 to 10.3 towing my 5th wheel from Denver to Las Vegas and back. My 5th wheel weighs about 12k.

11.5 to 12.2 towing combined 23,600 lbs, Juice set on Tow or 730 ftlbs at the rear (advertised) It don't slow down and don't ever down shift.

RamminJ EGTs on flat ground average 750-800 give or take in 5th at 60mph. In 4th at 55 around 700. On hills I down shift when EGTs hit 1250 or so. Up the Grapevine, I downshift to 3rd and cruise up at 35mph with EGT hovering around 950-1100.

Thinking about putting a 4.10 rear end in my 09 Diesel Ram 2500 4x4 crew cab. Thinking it may help my towing, but will it let me tow more weight?

On our long trips, like Florida to Alaska or Newfoundland, we are consistently averaging 12.7 - 12.8 which is total trip. This is probably 90% hooked up miles. This is with high profile 36' 16,000 pound fiver on board. Usually run 60 on the road unless clear and level, might push 65. Note it has 4.10.

OH boy - - I would have to dig out 7 year old records. I will let you figure it out - - total trip was right at 17,000 miles - - out for 5 months and trip included more than just to Alaska. You can plug in any number you want for cost/gallon. Off the top of my head, fuel was somewhere around $4000. We came home the inside passage on the ferry stopping for several days at each island - - cost around $2700. I remember the total trip was just shy of $11,000. Remember, that includes food, campgrounds, everything for over 5 months. Not bad considering what we did for almost 1/2 year. That included two plane flights, one landing on Ruth Glacier and the other around the top of Mt. McKinley, white water rafting, train ride and lodging for four days, multiple fishing trips, ski trams, etc etc etc. Wonderful trip and worth twice that.
