towing with hitch slider out??
towing with hitch slider out??
Folks - going to be on some narrow; twitsy; dirt roads going real slow. In your opinion would it be ok to pull in the manuver position; slider out, to make some tight turns? Have a #16 Reese slider hitch. Thanks
Not a good idea anyway but real slow is critical. I once had a problem just pulling out of a steep RV space with a sharp turn. The front wheels kept sliding sideways. You just don't have much control when so much weight is removed from the steering wheels.

I have a 36' toy hauler, and I towed about 2 miles with slider out. It got jammed and I couldn't unlock and slide it back in. Anyways, my headlights pointed a little further up (perfect actually) and the truck drove the same. The dry weight of my 5th wheel is over 10k pounds.
i have done this before. our hitch weight is 1600# 7800 trailer. the truck handled it but the ride was definately more bumpy and uncomfortable. i wasn't towing going slow. I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN... The only concern I have with doing it is the slide sliding forward on a panic stop and coming through the back window.

My thought too! I used the trailer brakes for ALL stopping when I towed that way.
