Towing with a camper
Towing with a camper
I have a 10.5' Lance camper, and I would like to tow a couple of quads. How long of an extention should I put on my tow hitch. What kind of hitch do I need.
Thank you all
Re:Towing with a camper
I have not seen class V 2" extensions longer than 18" . You may look at a Titan reciever which is 2 1/2" tube. They come in lengths up to 36". I have a 10' and it takes a 24" extension.

He does say 2" tubing AND angle iron...Don't get me wrong roadranger - 38" of 2" tubing with a boat hanging on the end is a bit scary - I would guess he must have some healthy bracing on it out of the angle iron.

Re:Towing with a camper
Let me clarify something. My boat is aluminum and loaded it weighs 1210 lbs. My tongue weight is less than 100 lbs. I built my extension from a design used by a local custom hitch shop. Although the bumper on my camper is also aluminum(welded) I have a bracket bolted to it that the extension also rests on.

I had a 12' camper and hauled a 20' boat. I bought a Tork-Lift receiver and extension. The stock class V hitch has 6 mounting bolts, the Tork-Lift has 12. The receiver has two 2" receivers, one above another. I have a 48" extension that is rated to 10,000lbs with a weight distributing hitch. The extension is really two extensions bolted together. The top is in tension while the bottom is in compression. It worked great. I have a fifthwheel now and don't need the extension anymore. They make the extension after the receiver is installed and the camper is on the truck.

I wouldn't advise hauling 10,000lbs at 4' behind the truck. But we did haul a boat, snowmobiles, dirtbikes and atvs without a problem.

You'll have to watch going over curbs, you may leave a mark if you're not careful.

I think they do mail-order.

Good luck!
