Towing from California to Yellowstone

I took the family camping to Yellowstone last week . Total of
2347 miles round trip and traveling in the park . Hit the Grand Tetons
and Snake River along the way. Total of 8 days , 2 days to get there and
2 days to get back , with 4 days in yellowstone. Tracked mileage on just the way there and back. Averaged 14 .3 mpg . Thats staying at 65 mph,
1850 rpm in 6th gear, towing a 6500# travel trailer. Not to bad

Not bad at all. Yellowstone is about an hour or so from the house to the West entrance in West Yellowstone, MT.

I sure got spoiled with the roads in Montana , Wyoming and Idaho. They
were all in great condition and smooth. As soon as I got back in California
on Hwy 80 , I started bouncing around again and dodging potholes

Yeah, I just got back this evening from a trip from CO to SLO CA! Long trip, but sure was glad to get out of Cali. Horrible concrete slab roads and only towing 55!!!!!

Towed my skiboat, about 5500lbs or so. plus the bed full of gear. Between 13.5 and 14.5 mpg on every tank. Towed just over 2K rpm in 5th, about 70 mph.

I see by your signature that you have a SB OFE. How is that clutch for towing, like starting off from a stop? Does it grab, or is it smooth? How long have you had it installed?

I'm about to upgrade and would appreciate your views.

thanks,
Jack

I've had the SBC OFE for 4 years and 40,000 miles. Very smooth on
take off in first gear. No problems I have been very happy.

We noticed the same thing in Utah. The roads were nice and smooth and in good repair compared to Ca. What the heck happened? We used to have the best roads in the country here? Massive entitlements, that's what!

You should see the campgrounds in Wyoming and Idaho. Uncrowded , clean and with warm showers. Camped right on the snake river for $20.00

Thanks for the response. Do you happen to know what the ratio is for your differential? I have the 3.54, so it is pretty tall. This is where I thought the OFE might not be smooth on takeoff, especially while back up.

TIA,
Jack

My gears are 3.45 also. As long as you leave in first gear when towing, take off is smooth.
