Towing a 28' Cargo trailer?'s

My dad just bought a 28' Enclosed cargo trailer and is gonna be using my truck in my sig. its a V-nose i believe but he should be able to pull it in OD? Its about a 180 miles long trip and its flat. And what about the wind if its blowing hard...would it be better to use the Tow/Haul Feature? Thanks guys i think the trailer weighs somewhere around 4500lbs

The only thing I'd be worried about is him getting a speeding ticket with your truck....

BulaBula:

The reason i ask is this is my first diesel i had a Ford F-150 with a 5.0 and it could barly pull my 1600 lb trailer. Now when i pull it with my truck in the sig i have to worry about ripping the frame apart.

I still remeber the thoughts I had the first time I ever towed with my '01, back when it was brand new. It felt kind of like a slug .. until I came to the first good hill. Pulled right away form a Caravan and Ford Explorer which were traveling along with us.

There are alot of opinions on this but I have a fully decked out edge race trailer and with it loaded and my race car in it(about 8500lbs), I always tow in OD on flat roads and even some slight grades. If I can maintain 55mph without lugging, I stay in OD. I have almost 50,000 on it so far and seems to be fine.

Tow/haul on the new trucks does not lock out OD it just changes the shift patterns. I would just use tow/haul mode and see how it goes.

Sorry, but that is not correct. On my 04 Tow haul locks out OD and doesn't appear to do anything to the shift points. It seems like they have made a couple changes to that function on these trucks in the last few years.

Yep, I knew that. I know there are a couple different ways but on the 04's its basically OD on/off. Shouldn't be called tow/haul.

good luck

starting in 05 tow/haul does not lock out OD. It does in 04 and prior. I have never driven an 06 so I don't know, he says you have 2 options then I believe it, which I think is great (the inability to lock out OD was a pain). I would suggest using tow-haul mode and see how that goes, since you will be towing.
