Tires

Have a 5th wheel. Need new tires. Trailer weighs about 13,500 loaded. Tire size is LT 235-85R-16 series E. What tire do you guys recommend, that won't cost an arm and a leg.

I have the same type tire on my 5ver also and it weighs about the same as you.

I had general junk when i bought it and after unraveling one on each side and tearing the heck out of my trailer I went to discount tire and got four new ones.

I cannot remember the name off the top of my head but they were the same size, e rated and I think total was around 400 flat because I did them one at a time and mounted them to the trailer myself.

I will get the name when I get to the trailer tonight and post it.

Im using Michelins and they've never let me down. I also run Michelins on my other vehicles too and never had problems what so ever. Great tire company I think. My .02

If you absolutely don't want to worry about tire failures, go with the all-steel construction LT235/85R-16E Michelin XPS Rib. Been there - done that with my previous 5th wheel.

I agree with the Michelins. Been running Goodrich on my 36 ft. gooseneck and blew 3 of them this summer. The Michelins are a bit more expensive but worth it.

As some one once said down here in Florida, "Tires an't Cheap" and you get want you pay for.

If you have 6.5 or 7 inch rims already and have small diameter 30" tires already, I'd suggest Michelin XPS Rib 245X75X16 Load Range E. New 7" aluminum rims with 3400lb rating can be found for $100.00 dollars if you look around.

I currenlty have Marathons (Marapops) on my rig. I only have about 6000 miles on them, all not to far from home. In Carriages wisdom somehow they deceided that Load Range D tires were all that was needed on the rig. If I saw them prior to buying they would have been E tires of somekind. Prior to me leaving town for a long haul, it will have the Michelins on there.

Good year has a tire it came out with 3 years ago now, an RST,235/85/16 E rating, with heavy trailers in mind. So far, no problems. Several others here have them, have not seen any bad reviws. Worth looking at. Goodyear is excellent at customer servce with RV's if a tire fails and ALL manufacturers have issues, from time to time.

Does anyone have any information on the Karrier Load Star tires, 235/85/16? They are E-rated, and supposedly can handle about 3,500 or 3,700 pounds each. They are made ONLY for traillers. I'd like to hear about some track records on them....do they hold up, etc. The prices sure beat Goodyear and Michilin. Thanks.
