tag on truck

tag on truck

i tow a 32 foot enclosed trailer with my stock car in it .it is now the end of year and my tag is due. i am curious to know if i need to up the weight for my tag right now it is for 9999 gvwr. the build slip (build paper work) for the trailer is 4400 lbs the car weighs around 3500 pounds for a total of around 7900lbs plus tools, generator,and other misc. if so what should i up it to

Why not load it to the maximum you think you'll load it to , take it to a scale , and weigh it ? If there isn't a truck stop nearby most gravel companies or moving companies have scales available to the public .

I meant to tell you to weigh your truck alone first , then weigh both and subtract the truck weight for the trailer weight . Check with your state DMV on registration laws . In many states you get the truck tagged for maximum combined weight and get a token plate for the trailer . I had my dually tagged for 24,000 but have seen many tagged for 32,000 or more .

I'd weigh the entire rig together and then make the decision. You might be surprised by what the scale tells you.

I don't think 2000# of extra cargo weight (besides the car)would even come close on ours. Tools, tires,rims, rear gears, jacks and stands,generator, extra fuel, nitrogen etc,etc,etc. You get the picture, it adds up. Don't have any idea about the legality issues but if your concerned, as previously suggested, weigh it fully loaded just like your going racing.
