Supertech (Wal-Mart) RV Anti-Freeze

Wow, did I just dodge a bullet. I noticed that an unopened bottle of this crap was frozen almost solid at 0° F. I checked both RV's I'm storing and the drains were frozen solid. I thawed it out and checked it with my spectrometer, and it tested at 12% propylene glycol. The minimum concentration that will yield the protection claimed is 35%. This stuff is good to about 15° F.

I checked both RV's that I'm storing, and the drains were frozen solid. I added a few ounces of propylene glycol full strength to each and fired up the furnaces. They all opened up, and are now protected. If I had not done that, they would have burst.

It was real fun, as we had a cold front rolling in, -7° with -20° wind chill as I was scrounging up and installing propane tanks.

Fortunately, after I flushed the water lines with this crap, I blew them clear with compressed air, so no worries there.

If you used this stuff, check it out. You may be in line for some heart breaking damage.

Wow, nice catch. I sure hope the stuff I got from Home Depot didn't come from the same batch.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing that.

I also pump antifreeze through the system, then blow out as much as possible with compressed air.

I never buy anything with the SuperTech brand name. Just one reason stated above. Besides why would you drive a $70,000 truck and use .99 a quart oil in it.

I've had very good luck with SuperTech synthetic oils in my small engines and gas automobiles.

I tested some Peak RV anti-freeze and it wasn't much better, 16%. I'll use it in the water system and blow it out with air as much as possible. for the traps I'll use safety-freeze 33%.

I run my saws on the hairy edge of destruction. I use top shelf (JASO-FC or better) oil.

Side trail. A long time age I rented a UHaul truck. Checked the oil at the rental place and nothing was on the dipstick. Guy said they don't put oil in. I wrote that on the papers and he signed next to it. He also put on there that eh would reimburse me for oil. We stopped at a little store. Found some really cheap oil. Label said using this oil will void all mfg warranties. In it went
