Strange towing set up spotted
Was in Waverly burning a hole in my wallet at the diesel pump yesterday and saw a pick up truck going down Rt 460 towing about a 30 foor 5'er and hooked to the back of the 5'er was about a 20 foot bass boat. Just seems like to me that would be asking for trouble.

Its not a common site but I have seen doubles being pulled...most states limit the overall length which varies from 60-70 ft long...when I go to Daytona bike week theres a vendor that I know of that pulls a double 30ft enclosed gooseneck with a 20ft tagalong cargo trailer

Re:Strange towing set up spotted
I got one better than that,,,,,,,, I was on my way home from work on I-295 about a year and a half ago when I started gaining on what I thought was a big house boat. As I moved over to pass this rig that was running about 50mph on a 65 mph interstate,,, I couldn't believe what I was seeing! At the front of this train was a late 80's-early 90's 4 door dually Powerstroke which had been modified so that the side of the bed was cut out to allow a Honda Gold wing to be loaded crossways behind the cab. It was towing a 5er that was about 25' long and behind that was a pontoon party boat!
The silver-haired driver and his lady friend didn't seem to have a care in the world as they tooled along at 50mph. I was so amazed that I didn't even think to look at the license plate to see where they were from. I still don't know how he had managed not getting stopped. ???

up here in alberta it is legal to tow a ball hitch trailer behind a tandem axle 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer. there is a total overall length rule but i do not remember what it is. amazingly enough most of the ones i see have a gas engined 4x4 1/2 ton doing the towing with 24 and 25 foot 5th wheels and 17 foot boats

I pulled doubles a lot.
One thing I got nailed for was when I cut through AZ on the small stretch of road between UT and NV on I-15.
They have a legal double limit of 55ft not 65ft and they tagged me 43 dollars for each trailer and 60 dollars for the truck. :'( I never went that way again and cut across to I think its 93 or 95 out of Idaho and straight down into NV. That is still cheaper then the cash grab they had in AZ.

A late 80s PSD? hmmmmm
Jetco is another trailer manufacturer that used CTDs to deliver their trailers, except they manufacture 42'-48' semi grain trailers. All the rams are equipped with air brakes and a fifth wheel hitch.

My dad has bought several of their used trucks, and are in great shape even with 300,000 + miles on them.

Re:Strange towing set up spotted
Dennis, that Ford you spotted was probably a 7.3 IDI turbo. It was the engine they used just previous to the PSD. I owned one in a 94 crewcab dually. Loved the truck, hated the engine/transmission. I think the engine developed about 65 hp, and coupled to the E4-OH NO! transmission it was quite a rig. After two transmission re-builds, I finally sold it. Most roomy, comfortable cab I've ever owned, though.

DeWain
