space between the fiver and the box ?

I have air bags and controller and when the fiver (Golden Falcon 25 mgt tour edition) connected and add air I can not get my truck level. The nose sits high and my lights are in the trees . If I do add air to level the truck I see the back of the fiver will sway at the rear. I need to know what distance I can get away with for clearance on the box to fiver. My fifth wheel does not rock to the side and has a few more adjustments I could use to lower the fiver in front. I have a trip planned from coast to coast ( Canada) and would like to know what I can do to fix this. Should I move the fiver plate up ? or move the fifth wheel plate down? Or Both ?

Thanks Don T

you should have at least 6 inches between the 5er and the truck bed rails i had to lower the pin box on my 5er and raised the hitch one hole to get the clearance needed.

You can get by with a little less, particularly w/ a SWB. Less space = more chance of contact in dips, etc. I hate towing at night with headlights glaring in oncoming driver's eyes, but do most of my travel in daytime.

I have always used 5 1/2 inches minimum, I have never touched but gets real close at times. You should try to get the trailer level because of the fridge. Moving the pin box down will increase the trailer height at the front and also increase the distance from the rear of the truck to the front of the trailer. I like to have the trailer as close as possible but still be able to open the front hatch when hooked up, so I have my 5ver hitch as high as possible and the trailer pin box high enough to maintain min 5 1/2 inches and still open the front hatch.

If your trailer is not level you may have to flip the axles or/and use larger tires to raise the trailer. I should clarify that "flip the axles" means moving the springs from below the axle to above the axle.

I'm with Busboy. I have had to raise 2 fivers by flipping the axles and going from 14's on one to 15"s. Part of the sway problem is in the off level tow. And yes 5" to 6" is about as close as you want to get.

Thanks guys for the ides . The fiver has 16" tires from the factory , But I did install longer centre perches for a bumper pull I had the same issue with (level ride).I will have to look into lifting the centre of the spring , that will give me a few more inches.I use the factor lines on the trailer to level the fiver. I ill also have a look at the fiver axles to see what side they are on. Thanks a bunch .
