Minimum space between duals??

On the way to work this morning, some guy came flying up the on ramp to the freeway and zipped around me in a "crackered up" 3500. It still had the car lot tags on it and a temporary plate in the window. Anyway, someone had put oversized wide tires on it in all 6 positions. The tires were so wide that I could not see any daylight at all between the rear tires on each set of duals (I even changed lanes behind him to get a different angle). This can't be good on the tires, especially in the "bulge" area of the tire at the contact patch.

So what is the recommended minimum clearance between the tires on a set of duals?

If at correct pressure, and not overloaded, they should never rub. If they do, they will take you all the way to the site.

I don't know that there's a min. spec, but if they touch they are going to over heat and could blow out.
