snow chains for 3500's and trailering with em
I am going into some icy territory this weekend and was wondering if they make a set of chains for duallies? Also is it good to use the chains if you are towing a trailer? Who is the manufacturer and where can i find em. Thanks in advance!!!

Not gonna be a whole lot of help here, but yes, they do make them. I have to carry them by law. All you have to get is, a set to fit one tire of the dual. If you want a chain for all 4 tires, buy 4 chains. I pull RV's for a living, and have had them on once, when the 'chain up' signs were on in Washington. I'd never used chains before, and they scared the $^#@ out of me! The truck was nice and stable, just scared they were gonna fly off and tear out my nice training wheel fenders!! As to where to buy them, I got mine at an auto parts store in Revelstoke, B.C. I know a lot of truck stops sell them as you get close to mountainous areas, but usually not for our 'smaller tires'. I would think an auto parts store down there, like Pep Boys or something, would have them.

I know alot of members think they are worthless but I carry cable chains in my truck years round...mostly because Ive used them more in the summer (mud) then the winter
For a dually get the chain set that that go over both tires for best traction...most states that have chain laws require chaining up the trailer also if your towing one...also be sure to buy the heavy duty chains not the light duty...and get the adjusters also they keep the chains tight

I'll agree with you Pappyman. Unless you are going to do some offroading, cable chains are the way to go. The ride is way better and they are easier to put on. I feel a lot more comfortable going 30 mph with them vs. chains. They can do some damage if they come off. Definitely need the adjusters. I have not heard of chaining up a trailer though. I've just turned the brake control down a bit.

Huh? I'd never seen a trailer with chains on. It looks as if you don't need them around Colorado and Wyoming. Learn something new everyday around here.

Why not just chain up the outer dual, as long as the chains don't rub the inner tire? I have two set of regular chains for mine, one set for the front, one for the rear. But have not used them yet. Cable chains are generally weaker than standard chains, be careful on packed ice or if there is any exposed pavement.

I have only needed to use my cable chains twice in winter and then it was only for a short 20 mile run...I carry 2 sets since my trailer has the same size tires as my truck...I did chain up my trailer to help with braking and put them on the outside tires on my daully...They helped alot going thru a mountain pass with switchback roads traction wasnt the problem it was braking that I needed durning the down grade :-[

I also got mine at tirechain.com. I got the dually chains w/v-bars. Excellent quality and service. Haven't used them yet, but did a dry run in the driveway.<br><br>Gene
