Angry Slider issues

Hello,

I have a 2008 Forest River Salem Le and have used the slide out a total of six times and now it is not extending/retracting. The noise it is making is when doing either of the above sounds like is has jumped track or the gears are stripped. Yes the battery is fully charged. So I manually retracted and after one use the slider and the tool that goes on the retracting mechanism is about wallered out the rod on the trailer. What garbage!!! Any thing I should be specifically asking when returning to the dealer, other than FIX your camper? Anyone else had slider out issues and what is the best way to prevent them? Thank you in advance.

Bill

I would find out from them what failed and why it failed. I've had three 5ers in the last ten years and the only issue I've had was due to some rotten wood in the vertical frame of the slide. It would make the slide bind up due to the wall trying to tilt.

I have a Forest River Wildcat 5th w/ a single slide. Had a problem with it this past April, one of the pins connecting the ram on the aft part of the slide had broken. The ram would push the slide out but not bring the aft part back in. I had to push it from the outside while the wife operated the button inside. Took it to an RV mechanic nearby and he had it fixed in a day, along with noticing that the rear set of tires were wearing oddly compared to the front, it has to do with the trailer riding nose high and I can't adjust it any lower. As for the pin, the mechanic said it was a fairly common thing with the Wildcats, not sure about the rest of the Forest River line up.

Is yours hydraulic, or on a geared rack?

In any case, getting under it, and possibly trying to move it while looking to see what's going on would probably be my thought...

Just another sign of Forest River's quality. When I delivered them the problems that came up with a new trailer that just arrived on the dealers lot were a joke. Countless inop slides, cabinets that fell off the walls, are just a couple.

i had a slide mechanism fail on ourpilgrim. the slide is made by lippert industries i called their tech line and the sent me out a slide actuator and installed in 2 hours tops. the gears in mine were stripped as well. I had to push on it outside and someone else to push the button and it barely made it back in.
