Signs of a going clutch?

I have 170K miles on my truck. No idea what clutch is in there (original or 2nd or what). Could someone tell me what signs of the clutch going might be? I feel like the pedal is getting harder to push lately... I do have an SBC Con OFE waiting impatiently to go in but haven't had the time to get it in...

Sorry man, cannot really help on trucks, but I can tell you that on our tractors the signs of a clutch going out is when there is no more adjustment left in the linkage and you cannot get it to fully disengage. I never could tell if it was slipping b/c whenever we had one go out it was during hay or tobacco seasons, not exactly high torque operations.

Hit it hard in 2nd and 3rd and watch the tach, if it goes up and the speed doesn't it is slipping let it slip enough and you will smell it, you will like the new one, as I have had mine in for a week and a half now and have just ran a tank thru it and it sure does hold. Southbend recommended to me to run a tank thru around town to set the clutch in and to take it a bit easy during that period and then let her rip. Some here have some complaints about backing a load with the con ofe, I have hooked up the rv and a trailer with a tractor on it and have had no problems with backing slow and tight. Goodluck,,Rick
