Exclamation SAFTY ALERT ON TIRES ON A 2004 3500 DUALLY (Goodyear wrangler GSA)

Hello
Tonight I was removing the tires off my wife's truck a 2004 3500 dually to take them in to get new tires mounted. Three of the tires had 1/4 splits in the side wall going around the tire about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the rim. The tires have 61 K on them and still have tread left for another 10 or 20 k miles. Once again they are Good Year Wrangler GSA tires

I will take some pictures and e mail them to a friend ( Dennis are you out there) so he can post them to show you what I am talking about.

I rotate the tires every 3000 and some times when I am lazy 6000 miles, when I do I look them over for stuff. I normally run 60 psi in the fronts and 60 psi in the rears. Tow things are a 10/11K fiver or a gooseneck with anywhere from 5 to 8K on it.

If you have these tires you may want to look at them inside and out for this problem. Having a tire have a come-a-part when traveling down the road pulling something is never a good thing.

See Ya
Chris

HHmmmm......

Thanks for the heads up.

Guess I had better luck than most with the Goodyear Wranglers that came stock on my truck. I rotated mine every 10-15K miles and got 120K miles out of them. When I hit that 120K miles I didn't buy tires because I needed them, I bought them because I wanted them. Peace of Mind thing, know what I mean. Also, I had Discount Tires put my old tires in the back of my truck and I drove out to Corinth, Texas where a used tire dealer paid me 150 bucks for all 6!

Anyways, the new Wranglers I put on them from Discount turned out to be a nightmare. Truck shook, bounced, and rode like hell. Took her back 3-4 times to have my balance checked out. Found out 5 of the 6 were out of round. Had them taken off the truck and replaced with the current Michelins on her now and she has rode just as smooth as day one.

Well, almost, she's a Dually, know what I mean.

PAPA,

My 2003 had the same thing on 4 out of six with 46,000. Goodyear charged me less than $300 to replace all four tires - - they were terrific in standing behind them. They must have had a bad run on them because there were no questions asked once they inspected them.

Great 38,000 miles and looks like they have a long way to go, but no you had to go and make me worry about my tires.

Hello again

Had a long day at work and just send the pictures to a friend of mine to post the pictures. I am some what computer challenged, my wife or son normally help me with this sort of stuff.
In my neck of the woods we have a very limited selection to choose from for 17 in tires with a load rating of E. I ended up going with a firestone tire. I had them mounted today and told them I wanted balanced and new valve stems and once I got home and looked over each tire closely found two of the valve stems still had brake dust on them. I will be toting them back at lunch time and talking to the mananger ( been using the same place for 10 years). Not really in the best of moods with a sore arm and heavy tires to move around. Then I will be going to the good year store and see if they give me a song and dance.

I have the tires in the back of my truck and you can flex the side wall and the outer bands are broken and what ever is inside the tire is holding the air.

I am not bad mouthing the Good year tire we have 61 K on them and still have roughly 1/8 inch above the tread wear ind. bar.

I have friends who have 3500 (dodge/chevy and F350) dually which don't rotate the tires and just figure every thing is fine. They just start up the truck and go.

This is near and dear to my heart because I have family out there sharing the road as everyone else does as well, But I also have a GRAND BABY out there. I think all the grand parents out there can relate to that.

Thanks Fiver Bob
I respect all of your inputs.

DuallyDog and Brisco
As I stated above the tires have performed until recently. I check the tires over when I wash them up and get ready to rotate them. I am just putting this out there because I know there are folks out there that pull more weight for longer than I do that maybe running this tire.

Sorry for such a long post
See Ya
Chris

Is this the same thing as what you're talking about. This topic comes up every so often. It's good to keep it active where people can see it.

Every Goodyear tire that has been on my truck has done this. What's funny is every tire dealer I've been to know's about the long standing condition. Every dealer except Goodyear that is.

Hello
Yes Bad Ramer Jamer except on our 3500 it was closer to where your thumb was in the picture.
I see it as bad news for a tire to be having issues when we are depending on it for safty's sake.

Fortunatly, none of mine blew out. I'm glad you brought this up. It remind's me to go check mine. I haven't looked at them since I switched to Michelen's. I hope they are in better shape.

From what others have told me, their RSA's don't have this issue.

I have had good luck with Cooper tires and have a good dealer here. It sure isn't going to be a Michelin going on mine after all the problems I have had with them with no support. You buy em, you own em. No thanks.

That's why I won't run Wranglers after the first rear set self-destructed after less than 10K miles... I just don't think they can take the weight.

I've got those same tires with about 35k on them right now. After looking at them, they look good for now but this is something I'll keep on the back burner just in case. That's crazy.

I do have to say this though, these are the best tires I've run in the snow and when I do pull the trailer, it is very smooth and quite a nice ride. I understand that just because of those things, you never know, however, I have been happy so far.

Again, thanks for the heads up.
