The New-Generation 2004-1/2 Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel

Dodge has launched the new 2004-1/2 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickup with the new-generation Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel, making it the most powerful and capable truck on the market. The newest Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickup was built with the most severe-use customer in mind, delivering maximum torque when drivers need it most. In fact, the new Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel delivers a whopping, best-in-class 600 lb-ft of torque and an unbeatable 325 horsepower.

In addition to offering class-leading towing capability of 16,400 pounds and a payload capacity of 5,020 pounds, the Cummins engine is the quietest Ram diesel ever made. It also is the first high-output Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel to meet emissions requirements in all 50 states.

In order to engineer the new Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel so that it provides more power and torque with reduced noise, while at the same time meeting tougher emissions standards, Cummins engineers utilized highly advanced computer-based design techniques. "Engine combustion is actually an extremely complicated process," explains Wayne Eckerle, executive engineer for Cummins. "There are a large number of parameters that affect the combustion design. It's the swirl coming out of the head. It's the number of spray holes. It's the angle of the spray holes. It's the protrusion of the injector into the combustion chamber. It's the shape of the piston bowl. There are just a host of factors. In the past, it's been difficult to test the interaction of all these factors by simply building components and then testing them."

To solve this challenge, Cummins created extremely precise computer models of the combustion process that allowed engineers to simulate exactly the effects of various changes and adjustments. "With these next-generation computer models, we were able to do a much quicker job of looking at many times the number of parameters than we could have experimentally," Eckerle explains. "The result is that we were able to evaluate more variables and ultimately come up with the optimal design for the combustion system. We've been able to create a design that really goes beyond anything that we've done in the past."

This new re-engineered Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel engine builds on the power and quality of the 2003 model year engine that helped make the Dodge Ram Motor Trend magazine's "Truck of the Year." The high-output Cummins engine for the Dodge Ram also merited a best-in-class rating in the J.D. Power 2003 Initial Quality Survey. It's stronger, tougher and better than ever before.

Below is the 2004-1/2 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty Cummins "600" towing a Caterpillar 777D Mining Truck with a gross vehicle weight of 155,684 pounds. The Caterpillar 777D stands 33.1 ft. tall and 20 ft. wide.

It would be a much more realistic and interesting picture if it was running over the little truck and smashing it like the bug it is.

I'm with Mr. Thorpe -- ???! I don't understand your point, y-knot. You want the Dodge truck smashed like a bug? I think you may be in the wrong forum.

You have to admit, it would be an interesting picture. Just flat as a pancake and useless as a Ford with a 6.oL.

Y knot, you have issues. I think it would be kinda neat to see a flattened truck to. Just not a dodge.I think it would be kinda neat to see a flattened truck to. Just not a dodge.
