Question Question about tires........?????

Currently I am running Mitchelin LT265/70R-17 All Season tires on my truck (OEM) with 32,000 miles on them. I have been happy with their overall performance except on wet grass. I'm looking at Mitchelin LTX265/70R-17 A/T2 (kinda a All Terain/All Season mix).

Anyone currently using this tire???
I Fulltime RV and would like a little more traction but with a smooth quiet ride?
Any other good tires??

Appreciate any/all responses.

I love my Nitto Terra Grapplers, i am running 285/75R16 they are an E-range. and they have great traction and a good ride. they have cuts on the tread like a mud tire (everyone i talk to think it looks good) but they kinda have an 'S' pattern tread. Like i say i really like them. I only have about 5,000 miles on my new ones, but i have about 16,000 on a used set (that have never left the front axle) they are getting a little saw toothed, but not bad for how long they have been on the front (they were starting to get the wear pattern when i got them). I really like them

They also have one called the Dura Grappler that looks like a great street tire, but not too much on the traction side---

I have been pleased with the Goodyear Silent Armor tires. I have about 20k on mine. They are quit, and give excellent traction all around. 50k warranty, E rated. They are Kevlar based. Some others on the site the site like them too.
Of course, the BFG AT/KO's have been very popular. Some people do not get the wear out of them.

I love the AT2s! They wear like iron and have GREAT traction in the rain. I pull a 10k travel trailer all over the USA, and have to say these are the best tires I have had.
I went through a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers in 28,000 miles and had the Duellers put on to replace them (warranty) and those were gone in 35,000 miles. I get all my tires rotated every 5000 as per Discount tire. The AT2s I have on for 25,000 and still look NEW.
Spend the extra money and get a quality tire.

One other option I have heard is a good tire is Nittos Dura Grappler HT. I havent tried them but I hear they wear good.

Be carefull with Goodyear Silent Armor

If you are towing a fairly heavy trailer a lot, which it sounds like you are, you may want to stay away from the Goodyear Silent Armor tire. I have them on my truck which practically always has a trailer (12K-15K lbs.) hooked to it. I started to see cupping and treads chipping off in the rear tires after 3K miles. I had the 2 rears replaced under warranty. I have under 1K on the new rears and already seeing cupping and feathering of the tread on the new tires.

I have talked to several who are experiencing the same thing with these tires that tow often. Seems to be common among people who tow often with a fairly aggressive tread pattern.

I hated the stock Michelin's because I burried the truck with the camp trailer hooked up in wet grass! I really like the traction, quietness and feel of the Silent Armors, but I am really unhappy with the premature wear that I am seeing. There is no way that I will get even close to 50K out of these with the way they are wearing.

If you find a tire that is great for towing plus has pretty good traction off road please let me know as I am looking for something to replace the Silent Armors with.

Most that I have talked with do not like the Nitto's for towing heavy loads with. Same problem as the Silent Armors- Premature wear.

I have one close friend that really liked the Revos, lasted a while, and gave good traction, however, he only towed a medium sized camp trailer or boat occasionally.

What are the AT2's? Who makes them? I assume you got them from a Discount tire store? I will have to check them out. How is the off road traction on these tires? Are they pretty much a mild all-terrain tread pattern?

dieselman2300 Thanks for the info on the AT2s......what size are you running 265 or 285?? What can of mileage do you have on them so far??

Rough-N-Ready Thanks for the warning about the Goodyear Silent Armor tires cupping & feathering (and the Nitto's)......don't need that. I do tow heavy all the time and like the stock Michelins for wear, quiet etc. BUT I too buried the rear end (twice) in wet grass with the 5'r hooked up. That was fun!!

I have Revo's on my truck and they are the best tire I have ever had on wet pavement and in the rain. Traction is great--I've got about 45K on them and they should last another 5K. They do make a little noise but overall I think they are pretty good tires. I do however, plan to buy the AT2's next time. I have 265x70x17's. Best price I could find was discount tire. You might go to Tire Rack.com and look at the comparisons between truck tires before you make a decision.
