Unhappy Prodigy Brake Control Help Please!!!!

Just installed the prodigy with the plug harness. My problem is that the controller does not show the trailer connected, but everything works fine the brakes, brake lights and turn signals. I do not get the digital reading (.C) to show that the trailer is connected. I digital reader just shows (.). When I try the manual button it shows (.NC).

NOTE: My truck did not come with the 7 pin connector from the factory. I paid the dealer to install the harness and hitch. Their is one wire from the harness that wasn't installed light blue. I questioned the dealer and they said that the wire wasn't supposed to be connected. So I tolk it to another dealer and they said it was installed right and show me the directions to prove it.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

thax pat

The BLUE wire is the BRAKE wire to the trailer. Also check to see if they ran it thru the normal wires that should be there any way and check the 40amp fuse in the fuse box that is not installed due to NOT having the TT package.

If you're referring to the blue wire dangling under your dash, they were correct. Connect that blue wire to the brake wire coming out of your Prodigy and your problem is solved. If your truck didn't come from the factory with the 7 pin plug (like mine didn't), then they run the brake wire for you but they don't hook it up to the harness. Simple fix. I'd just cut the blue brake wire coming from the Prodigy harness and splice it with that blue wire under your dash that isn't connected. That will fix your problem.

I had to do the same thing with my Jordan. The other two or three wires coming from the harness on the truck are connected, but the trailer brake wire is not.

Thanks all for the help!

I thought that I had brakes maybe I didn't and probley didn't. Used to tow with a 1500 I guess there is a big difference in braking with the 3500.

Thanks again for all your help!!

Hold a compass down by a wheel and have someone activate the controller. The compass will move if there is a field developed in the brake magnet.

Thanks again all for all the help it worked. But the blue wire does seem to be chinsey compared to the harness that came with the prodigy. I do not think that the blue wire is 12 gauge. I have a two axle trailer do you think I'll be all right?

thanks

You are correct. For whatever reason, they used 14 gauge wire for the brake wire (I noticed the same thing). This bugs me to no end, but if you're not using more than four brakes (two axles) then the 14 gauge wire will work fine. If you ever pull a three axle trailer then you'll probably want to pull a new wire.

I just installed a 7 pin inside my box for my 5er. I went to the local rv store and told them I needed about 4 ft of 7 wire harness and a female plug. He brought out a 7 wire harness and all 7 wires were 14 ga wire. I asked him the same question and he went and checked with the guy in back. He came out and said that is the wire they use on all their installs and you will not have a problem with it. I test drove it and it works just fine.........
