Re:Pivot head lockout

latitud_rt said,"The Reese 16k is a 4-way pivot and the Reese 15k is only a 2-way pivot
Why I ask, why?????"

The only difference between the Reese 15K and Reese 16K is the side to side pivot. The support, bed rails and mouting hardware are the same. Everything on the 15K hitch except the head is rated much higher than 15K. It is possible to replace by components and upgrade this way. Less moving parts on the 15K mean less cost for entry level. Another way to put it is entry level hitches are not 4-way pivot hitches. When a 5er dealer sells a 5er and throws in the hitch it is a 2-way tilt.

This brings up another item. If you use a lockout on a 16K hitch, does its rating remain the same with the extra towing stresses? Maybe it should be down rated to 15K or 14K. ??? ???

Re:Pivot head lockout

More good questions ???....but why would you down rate the capabilities just because the side to side pivot is stopped. With this logic, the side to side pivot adds 1,000 lbs of towing ability. Hum....

I got the 16k 4-way pivot for hook-up reasons, never thought about the towing aspect until after I pulled with it for the first time. At times it seems to float and its hard to feel. I have pulled travel trailers for years and you always know whats its doing back there because you can feel it. I am going to try the 5'er both ways, locked and unlocked, so I can feel the difference for myself.

Tim

Re:Pivot head lockout

Everyone should consider down-grading their 5er hitch from a 4-way pivot to a 2-way pivot since it is now available from the manufacturer. In the most recent years companies have need to downsize to weather the weakened economy caused by 9-11. We should support their efforts to stay afloat, no matter how useless or illogical, and/or useless the product may be to the individual at the time. . .buying these products not only provides jobs, but increases their bottom line. When their bottom line is improved our 401Ks benefit, hence we take money from our right pocket and let others move it to the left pocket. In the process we end up with less money in our left pocket. Take heart, my friend, the shrinkage in the money transfer enabled your neighbor to keep his ???worthless??? job. You have been the good Samaritan in it all so you should feel good. ???

Re:Pivot head lockout

So what your saying is..... I did extra good because I spent more money on the better hitch and then extra money to make the hitch "different" than it came from the factory

I feel so much better now. I need to buy something...maybe the inner fender liners that were 'missing' from the 2002 model year, where did my credit card go? Have you seen it?

Tim
