Piggy back hauling?

What is the legality of hauling a 23' travel trailer and a 21' boat. I live in South Alabama and like to travel to Fla. gulf coast for vacations. Am considering buying a boat but would like to take both when I travel without having another tow vehicle. Any input or suggestions? Thanks.

I think the prevailing rule is that you can only tow doubles if the first trailer is a fifth wheel/gooseneck hitch. So you wouldn't be able to tow a boat behind a bumper pull travel trailer.

Aside from that, you have length considerations that you would need to check with your state DMV about.

I was planning on checking with dot. I know I have seen some vehicles doing it in the past. Didn't notice if they were 5'er or tt. My guess is you could probably get by with it 80% of time. Until you came across a trooper having a bad day and his bad day would turn into your bad day.
Thanks for the info.
On the bright side if it is legal to tow with the 5'er I now have and excuse to upgrade the travel trailer.

Different states have different laws. I know here in Arkansas you can pull ball to ball up to 65' and in some states it's as much as 75'. There is a website that gives each state's law. You might "googling" it.

Here's my set-up that I pull on occasion and while I'm over the legal length 9', I've never had a problem.

I'm pretty sure that doubles are illegal in both Al and FL. The highway patrol is a better resource than DMV since they mostly just do drivers testing and sell tags. None of the online sites I have seen about RV doubles are accurate about legality, so don't waste your time there. You could google the official state website for towing laws, and if legal, print them.

Thanks for the info. I guess from the website they refer to it as triple tow. I will call state troopers to find out for sure. But according to web site triple tow is illegal in FL and AL. Only other option would be to buy a 40' gooseneck flatbed and try to load them up on there. Then I may be over height of 13'6".
Thanks again for the info.
