I've been researching this on many websites and still unsure if the weight class sticker includes the GCWR or just the GVW . Currently I have a class 6 on the truck . Can I go down to a class 5 for GVW of 11,001-14,000 lbs , or do I need to increase to a class 7 of 17,001-21,000 lbs to accomodate for the total weight of both . I am so confused ..
By the way , I had the truck sitting on just one of the scales , thats why the drive axle was 00 .

Look in the door of your truck for GVWR and then on your trailer for GVWR.
Add the 2 numbers together to get your combined GVWR and register it for that weight.
Is 11,260 lbs the weight of your truck? both axles on the scale? are you over weight?
They don't really care what your exact weight is you register by the weight you can legally carry.

If your trailer is gvwr of 17000 and your truck is 12000 that puts you over 26000 lbs and you also need a CDL to drive it.
If your load on the trailer is always under 10000lbs. you should have the weight lowed on the trailer to keep you out of the combination plates.
What is the legal GVWR of your F250?
Yes you need to know your axle weights on your truck. To see which end is overloaded.

We had dual registration on the dump trucks for several years. Two weight stickers, one for running straight truck, one for combination.

DOT doesn't care what the factory gcwr is. They care about combined GVWR. You need the class 7. If you run class 6 and somehow get scaled at 19,400, they are going to write you a ticket for being 2400 over registered weight.
That's the cheap one though. They really get you on axle weights.

Why would you run 2 regs? didn't some of the drivers have CDL?

I don't know why, I was only in my early teens at the time. Could be the one sticker just didn't get removed, but I clearly remember 3 stickers in the window. These were air braked single axles registered around 33,000. Could have been for insurance and license reasons on the farm.

Weight Sticker

If your inquiry is for recreational use of an RV they may be exempt from the regulation all together. Read the rule very carefully and don't add anything that isn't already there.

So if the trailer is under 10K, the truck does not need a combo plate? Is this true for a 3/4 ton and a one ton?

My trailer is really a 14K trailer that is registered as a 10K trailer. If I 'overload' the trailer (go to 14K) how much would the weight ticket be (I am in PA). I rarely am overloaded but am curious.

NO combo plate if under 10k and I hear the fine is $500 + $2 per lb.
So 1000 lb over would be $2500
\
Is this correct?

05 F350 + 14K trailer = $3,400 fine in PA

I bought a new 05 F350 King Ranch crew cab dually to replace our 95 F350 2 weeks ago. The dealer registered it as a class 8 vehicle (13,000 GVW) as the door jamb plate on the truck indicated.

I hooked it up to my 14,000 GVW gooseneck trailer and was pulled over by the PA DOT and was ticketed for the following:

No CDL license, no log book, no fuel tax stickers, improper registration, no warning triangles, no fire extinguisher, no medical card and overweight. (truck and trailer combined weighed 21,000 LB.) I was not allowed to drive my truck any further. We had to have a CDL driver come and pick up our truck and trailer and drive it back to our farm.

The ticket is $3,400.00. The officer stated that if the rated weight of the truck and trailer combined is over 26000 lb., CDL and commercial vehicle requirements are in effect. My old dually was 11000 GVW and I never had a problem. With the new truck the combination weight is 27,000 GVW.

Why did Ford raise the GVW by 2000 Lbs on the 05? I now cannot haul our horse trailers and equipment trailers without a CDL License and all of the BS that goes along with it.

I am upset that my dealer did not advise me of this potential problem and mad at myself for not researching this prior to spending 43K on this new truck.

Can I have the GVW of the truck lowered by the manufacturer, dealer?
