Thanks for the input guys.. If I need to raise the camper up a bit, then I will, and there are plenty of ways to do that. I guess the only way I am going to know for sure if this setup will work is to go down there and measure. Right now, my only concern is if the camper flares out toward the back to 64" like was mentioned before. It MIGHT do that, but I didnt look at it close enough last time I was down there to know for sure. I guess the only solution is to make the 1.5-2 hour drive out to the desert where its stored to find out.

BTW, I love rv.net I forgot about it until today.. I registered there back in may of 05

I raised my camper with a 1" thick 4' x 8' foam board (rated for 20psi) and glued 1/4" plywood to both sides. This protects the fragile foam (which is very strong in compression) from any physical damage and distributes any point loading over a larger area. With the sprayed in liner everything sets very stable and never moves a whisker.

My lance camper is early 80s I think its a 400 model 9.5ft and it measures 64+ inches at the back where the holding tank and shower are. I plan on taking 2 inches out of the waste water tank and 2 inches out of the shower when I get my new truck. It may not look as good inside but will be functional and save me a lot 0f money on replacement of it. I don't know the exact year. Chevrolet went to the narrow bed in 1988, Dodge in 1994 and Ford in 1997 so camper manufactures probably started making the narrower versions around 1988.

I used 2x4's all the way around exept the rear of the camper, so it raised by 1 1/2 inches and then I place a 4x8x1 1/2 piece of blue board insulation inbetween the 2x4's for extra insulation and stability.

Just got done talking to my father in law, and he says that the camper is a 1991, and it only gets wider at the back, the part that does not go into the truck bed, so it looks as though its not going to be a problem. I am going to go measure just to be sure anyhow, but it was good news to me

Northstar& '07

I've got an '07 on order and a 2" frame must be attached to the bottom of the camper in order for it to fit,not due to the cab height(Fords) but to the bed depth. Seems Dodge increased distance from bed to rails. Why do they do this?

They do this because they like to make things difficult. Sucks doesnt it?

I've got a 04 9.5' Northern Lite.It needed to have 2" in the bet to clear the cab.My 04.5 Dodge is the same.I also noticed that the wide part @ the rear of the camper does fit a little tighter than on my ford, but not enough to worry about. The bed rail height isn't an issue, even if I didn't have the 2" under the camper.

I have a 05 and I had to build a 2" frame not because of the cab hieght but because of the bed rail hieght like danderson said and I have a 1989 lance 11'3.
