NY making their own CDL laws ?

Word's going around that NY will require anyone pulling a trailer for hire through the state to have a CDL , even under 26,000 lbs. I have to doubt that but it's been heard enough some haulers are hesitant to haul through NY . Any of you NE haulers heard anything on this ?

from what my friends and relatives tell me that state is in the death spiral so anything they can do to suck in more income would'nt surprise me. Especially western ny, friend moved from there and said it was a ghost town.

Dont quote me on this but if your hauling for profit (Hire) you need a cdl. Any trailer over 10k you need a class A even without hauling for hire in most states. Any vehicle registered for over 10k gvw thats for hire/ commercial use you need a med card. The way you describe it doesnt sound much different than any other states laws.

You are governed by the state you live in. You can't have two licenses. For instance, I have a wally mo 4 car trailer that I haul my own vehicles I collect to my parents ranch out west from Michigan. Given Michigans rules, I don't need a CDL. So, I am legal to drive through other states, given I don't violate any axle weight ratings.

In NY commercial or not under 26,000 lbs total for the truck & trailer you do NOT need a CDL unless it is a tow truck then you need a non cdl-c with a towing enorsement. They did away with the trailer over 10,000 lbs requiring a cdl a few years ago when they also raised the weight for a truck only CDL B from 16,000 to 26,000.

Thanks . It's really hard to prove a new law doesn't exist . A lot of RV haulers were worried about it .
