new wheels and tires for 25' gooseneck trailer
hey everyone, i have a 25' deckover gooseneck trailer rated at 14,000lbs and am thinking since i am getting new wheels and tires would there be any problems with putting my stock wheels and tires on the trailer? (stock chrome clad steel wheels with BFG rugged trails with about 30% tread left.)
i Haven't test fitted them to even see if they bolt on, but say they do, is there any issues with running truck wheels and tire on the trailer? they are the 265 70 r17's load range E.

yea, i was wondering if they would be to tall. as for offset, not sure it would be that big of a deal, the tires are really tucked in and its a deckover, so i wouldn't think that would be an issue. i'll probably change the tires, but i wa wondering if i could just use them up a little.
anyones else have any thoughts? the tires on there now look like light truck load range E tires. thats kinda what gave me the idea.

i run a set of chrome wheels off of the 99 3/4 ton,on my 40' enclosed gooseneck that i haul furniture in,they have worked great (4 years now)i have used the stock tires with no problems also,now i have the goodyear g614, g load range,235/85/16 now and they are great
I read a thread somewhere in this Forum (I think) (C.R.S.) about this very topic. Trailer service tires are built a little different than truck tires. Something about tread pattern and sidewall strength, due to a lot of scuffing on turning trailers. I have used take-offs from my trucks over the years when possible with none or little adverse circumstance. JMHO Frank

think it is the tires made for trailers that are not up to spec for vehicles,thus being mandated for trailers only,you never see tires that say vehicles only,but you see ones that specify trailer service only.JMHO

On 15" and smaller you have to get trailer tires mainly since there's no vehicle type with many side plys and load range E or higher.
The point is to have heavy sidewall tires to stand the constant weight.
In Texan1983 case the rims MIGHT bolt on, depends on trailer, but it might be center hole is a tad smaller than trailer. They all use Ford pattern which has a large center hole.
Except for all gooseneck and heavy transport trailers with 16" tires. They all use 10 ply Load Range E (or higher) standard tires just like the ones on your truck. Majority uses 235/85/16", others might get wider type.

If your truck has 17"rs and they fit on your trailer go ahead and get them, that's what I'd do.
But.... in case of a blowout the chances to find a /80/17" tire is very little.
I rather stay with common sizes, prices will reflect this too.

i'll test fit them this week and find out. anyone have any idea how much clearance you should have from the tire to the bed? not sure how to tell how much susp. travel there will be.
My trailer tires are the same as my truck tires, size and load rating, and the center hole is the same size...but the lug studs on the trailer are smaller, so no trailer - truck spare swaps for me
The single wheels are stud piloted (unless you drive a new Ford) and as long as the pilot bore clears there is not a problem (the pilot bore is a decrotive cut out that can be modified if needed on a stud piloted wheel). If your studs are not long enough find the manufacturer of your axle (there should be a tag on the axle beam or marking on the hub and drums) and many will make longer studs for aluminum wheels and so forth. Do not try to put anything larger than an "E" rating on a stock rim. "G" rated tires carry 110 psi and your stock rim only carries 80 psi. It will crack the rim. Using the same size wheel and tire on your trailer is common place on many trucks and trailers. Just check your load rating and make sure your oem offset does not rub the tire on the inner frame rail. If you have to use spacers, don't.
