New Truck And Towing ?'s
Hey everyone...i pick my new truck up in about 13 days or so (see signature) I know that everyone on here and i believe the owners manual also says wait 500 miles before towing. Is that towing nething or would about 1400-1600 lbs be too much before the 500 mark? Thanks

They say the Cummins doesn't need a break in but the manual states that we should wait 500 miles before towing. I believe the reason being is to let the brakes set in and for the transmision to set in. I would wait unless you have no choice. My 2 cents worth
The critical parts are the ring and pinion in the rear axle that have to develop a good wear pattern.
I seriously doubt 1400-1600 lbs would matter at all. On the other hand, I did wait 500 miles before towing our previous heavy 5th wheel.

I stopped and picked up a trailer from one of my job sites on my way home from the dealership when I bought mine. Probably about 3000lbs. I didn't even know you were supposed to wait 500 miles. I have been towing every since.
their is no reason to wait 500 miles before pulling. For example John Deere, Case International recomend only min. Idle time for their equipment. and recomend you put it to work. When you rebuild a Diesel engine as soon as it warms up on a dyno they run it wide open for 1 hour, in diesel shops around my parts. If you idle a new engine you just get a oil burner!

Thanks Guys!! From what i've been reading this 610 has some pretty insane power!! And i gave my old truck to my brother and that was a gutless POS 87 Ford with a 302. So this is really gonna be a HUGE!!! change the 302 couldn't pull my 1600 lbs trailer in a strong headwind over 50-55 mph you could have the pedal right to the floor and that was it no more...but certainly alot less. And that same 1600 pounds behind the 610 its not even going to know thats its back there. Can't wait for my new truck i'm probally one of the 21 yr olds that has one that bought it himself. Thanks For all the great info..i deffiantly got an addiction to DTR
