Re:New Trailer Came Today

Fiver,
That accident you described is the EXACT reason I bought the Hensley Hitch. I am towing a 28' toyhauler and a Quad inside and I drove out to the desert for the weekend. it was windy and trucks passing, no problem, Finger driving like a car, no fishtail, no wiggle waggle. If they get a new trailer and tow unit, tell them to get this! It is expensive but so are hospital and tow bills!.

Example of a right turn with the hitch.

Heres the truck hooked to it.

and heres my setup

heres a drawing of it to see the parts better.

Re:New Trailer Came Today

On my way down to VA for the Claremont show I saw a Suburban and what was left of a long travel trailer in the ditch on I-64. Apparently same thing had happened.
Over the CB I heard someone say it was a very tongue heavy load and the front of the Sub was bobbing up and down a lot.
We saw it seconds after it happened.

A friend of mine had a huge boat and would haul it down the road with his Sub, sold the Sub after a crosswind took the boat to the ditch with the Sub along with it.

Just today I came up behind a travel trailer that was ALL OVER the ROAD. It was at least a 28ft tag and it was being towed by a Jeep LTD with no tow mirrors. :

That Airstream is one nice unit. I was looking at those when I was shooping RV's. I did get with a 5th wheel with triple slides but the Airstream was always in the back of my mind for how well it was built. Do they tow as good as they claim?

Scotty

The motto of the Allegro motorhomes is "Roughing it Smoothly". Cute.

Re:New Trailer Came Today

Just back from first weekend trip all went well. Hardly know Trailer is back there once at speed , does take a little longer to get there , last Airstream 4700lbs unloaded this one 8100lbs unloaded so that is noticable on take off. Have WD hitch with anti-sway. 12.69mpg for the trip , some of it was back roads 45-50 with OD off 2000-2100 rpm top speed on trip because of route taken was 60mph stayed right around 2000rpm. Much better milage than when I towed lighter Airstream to Fla. but speed rpm was main factor there.
