New Tires (did I make a good decision)?
Running BFG AT 305/70-R17's load range "D" right now. Love the tire, but when I increased the size over OEM, I didn't like what it did to the gearing (especially for towing). Now that we bought the toyhauler and I will be hauling heavy, I don't feel safe with the "D" rating (plus I want a little bit smaller tire so that the bed doesn't sit up quite so high). Ordered a set of Nitto Dura Grapplers in a 285/70-R17 with "E" rating. Overall diameter is about 1.1" smaller than my current tires, should lower the truck a bit (not much) and help with the gearing.
Anybody had any experience with the Dura Grappler? All the reviews I read were positive. I had a set of Terra Grapplers and wasn't impressed with the wear life of them.

Well, got the tires put on Saturday. They look OK. I really liked the stance I had with my BFG's but I didn't "need" them. For towing, I need the E rated Nittos. Hooked up on Sunday to bring the 5'ver home and what a difference the smaller diameter tires made. The first to second shift used to be jerky because of what the BFG's did for my gearing. These new ones bring the ratio back closer to stock. The bed also sits a little lower, so the trailer isn't as nose high. All around, they are doing exactly what I wanted them to do.
Time will tell if I get mileage out of them.
