New to brake controllers, looking for advice

What would you guys recommend for a brake controller for my truck, see sig for details. I dont want or can afford anything extravagant or over the top. i just need a simple controller that can work reliably. The biggest load i will ever see would probably fit on a 2-axle car/equipment trailer...8000 lbs max between trailer and load on it. Maybe once a month towing maybe, not many miles. I'm not a cross country hauler

Could someone explain to me the different types of controllers: intertia, solid state, whatever, whatever... And a quick lesson in proper use and terminalogy would be helpful. Freakin new guys..i tell ya

I have an older tekonsha controller right now that has a sliding thing to the right side of it that slides right to left, and another slider that slides front to back to regulate the brake force applied. It works ok in the truck, but i really dont know what the right-to-left slider does, but it does engage the trailer brakes when i hit the brake pedal in the truck. I woud like to buy a new one that comes with instructions on how to use it correctly. I am new to having a brake box in the truck, but not new to towing. I drive a lowboy tractor/trailer at work, but we dont have brake controllers in them

I don't know a lot about the different types. However, for your use, I would get the Tekonsha Prodigy. Just install it and forget about it. Not as complicated or expensive as a brakesmart, and some would say not as good. But I have a prodigy in last 2 trucks and hauling mules and cars etc, its all I have ever needed, and have done nothing to it. If I hauled a HEAVY fifthwheeler I would maybe get a brakesmart.
