My pride is a little bruised
Went camping this weekend and while driving into the campsite my Dodge got stuck. The 2 trucks before me didn't, but as soon as I hit the muddy stuff the front end sunk like a rock up to the hubs. My buddies F-150 ended up yanking me out. I don't think he's gonna let me live it down fora long time either. Maybe its time for even more aggressive tires.
Rick

Re:My pride is a little bruised
It has nothing to do with relative power - your cummins probably weighs 2-3 times as much as whatever Ford engine he has in his truck, THAT is what did you in in a soft surface - but yeah, it never pays to get too cocky where these trucks are concerned - sometimes crowing rapidly switches to EATING crow...

Were they bald? ??? If so, there in lies your problemo.
Buy some BFG Mud Terrains, and you should be good to go! ;D

Re:My pride is a little bruised
Unfortunately I couldn't blame it on bald tires, although I was pulling a 2500lb trailer. That was my excuse. Soft surfaces are a killer of any diesel, I should have learned by now. I think some BFG mud terrains might be in the near future for going camping and such. I've got 2 sets of wheels, so I think I'll go get some mounted up.
Rick
Re:My pride is a little bruised
My truck was only 3 months old, first camping trip.
Stock tires, little swampy mud hole, no problem, I've got a Cummins. ;D
Sunk to the bumper in front, back tires hardly sunk at all.
Look outside, one tire on each side just a spinnin', other one just sitting there, mistake thinking Limited Slip or "Positraction" (from the old days) would come standard in a 4X4 truck, guess not.
Paid a lot of money for a 1x3 truck
1 hour of collecting sticks and stones and putting them under the tires, nothing.
2 mile hike, found a nice couple with a F-150 and a shovel ( :
DOH!), broken tow strap (3 times) and I was out.
4inch lift, 34.75 inch BFG All Terrains (mudders don't last as a daily driver),
first off road excursion yesterday.
Came to some mud, didn't want to chance it so was in the process of turning around, and some young wippersnappers in a stock 4-banger wrangler with stock tires pull up alongside.
HEEEEELLLLPPPPP, my buddy is stuck in the snow "just around the bend there" in his stock 4-banger wrangler with balding stock tires, "we've already asked 10 people and they said sorry but no, including a Ranger" (something about lawsuits?).
Thinking back to about a year ago, situation I was in, and the kindness of strangers, I gave in.
Proceed up the road, around "4 bends", in mud and snow.
Back up to jeep (no towhooks in front ???, had to use reciever mount in back to hook to, jeeps come standard with tow hooks [undecided])
Little tug, jeep almost rolling down the side of the mountain, bigger tug, back end of the Dodge sliding towards the side of the mountain, Jeep comes out in one piece.
They offered me beer, took the beer (warm, but snow bank on side of road worked great
),
asked if they could pay me, I say no, but told them
"Pay it Forward", they say HUHH??
Just promise to help someone else in the same situation some day,
keep the order of the universe in check.

Re:My pride is a little bruised
I've got the factory "limited" slip. I guess limited means different things to different people, but to me, It doesn't limit much slip. You're probably better off not paying the $200 for the option and saving it for a detroit locker or something similiar.

Re:My pride is a little bruised
Well, I got something for you boys. Saturday night my brother was comming home and told me there was this ford stuck in the mudd up at the top of our road so he said lets go get him out. grabbed a couple chains, threw them in the back and took 5 other people with me!!! Pulled up and this f-150 was burried to his rear axle in mudd. So I backed up to him hooked up and pulled him out without even spinning a tire. Also my tires arent the greatest, I am gonna need new ones soon! It made my night, the guy offered me $20 but him being a fireman like myself I told him I wouldnt take it. I also just wanted the bragging rights to tell people that my DODGE pulled a FORD out!!!
Re:My pride is a little bruised
Last fall my 4x4 3500 and I spent two hours launching boats in 10 degree weather for folks that needed help on the ice coated ramp. Best part was there were three Fords in that group. Pay it foreward.
Re:My pride is a little bruised
A few months ago, my die-hard ford buddy's 4X4 F-250 (gas) was buried in the mud. Hooked up my 4X2 ctd (I kept the front end on the somewhat solid muddy road), loaded up my bed with a number of drunks, spun my tires some and pulled him back to a paved road--(pulled him more than needed, but I was getting a kick out of the 4X2 CTD pulling the 4X4 F-250 down the road. He had the Ford 4X4 "I can go anywhere" attitude that didnt get him very far at all....I just use a little common sense when driving my 4X2. Been through some good mud, but havent gotten it stuck YET.
Re:My pride is a little bruised
I have only been stuck one time and that was because I was not payin gattention and slid down itno a ditch that was about 6' deep. Not pulling me out I had to get a dozer to pull me out. I tried a tractor but it even sat a spun. all you could see of my truck was the stacks sticking up out of the ditch/creek also the same day I broke the fron coil mount on my truck. Dang rocks sux.

Re:My pride is a little bruised
There is an old saying about 4x4 - "it gets you stuck in more inaccessible places, which cost you more to get pulled out of". I have been stuck in some really bad stuff; buried to the frame, but I have also gone through some bad stuff. Part of it is technique, and the rest is good tires and better luck.

Re:My pride is a little bruised
Hoss, that was just early in the AM, by noon the ice was gone on the ramp. Most boats that had been used the day before had to sit with the motor in the water for awhile before the pump would thaw and get the cooling water going. Big fish that time of the year, CA banana belt fishing.
