My new DUMP Trailer!!

Whatcha guys think of my newest toy/investment? It was built in 2001 by
A-A Welding in Tx. 8' x 12' x 3' box w/dump truck style tailgate. Rugby scissor power up and down hydraulic system. I've hauled 2 loads @ 8 ton each. Pulls awesome empty or loaded. I just got sick of paying $150/load for delivery of rock (20 mile round trip). Figured I'll get my goodie out of it and then haul some for others and maybe recoup some of the cost of trailer.

You just moved into CDL territory, don't get caught.

16,000 load
4000+ trailer
7000+ truck
-------------
27,000 total

That puts you at least 999 pounds into the CDL.

If you are over 10,000 on the trailer you need class A

thats true. class b license is good for the weight you have, if its on a straight truck, towing a trailer with a class b it limited to 10k.

take the back roads?

Sorry, you'll need a class A license. You might want to look into a couple other things.

Commercial tags
Commercial insurance

I don't know what Texas will require but I'm betting gravel delivery is going to look cheap before this is over.

Sorry brother, but it's better than getting a red tag, having to call a tow and then having to fix all this with fines and court costs added in just to make it sting a little more. You'd need a trailer full of money then.

No really thx. I didn't even think of that since i was going to pretty much be haulin for myself and assumed I would fall under farmer laws. I've read up a little tonight and I don't think I will fall there. So off to see if I can pass the "A" license.

the permit test is a cake walk, i took mine with a class b in my wallet already. just had to take the combination test which was only 20 questions because i already passed the general knowledge and air brake section when i got my class b.

the only thing i didnt like was, according to the DMV office, if i didnt take the class a road test on an air brake truck, i would lose my air endorsment, even though i already passed it with my class b. but im in NY. might be something else worth looking into, unless you dont have air brakes, or dont care about losing them!

Thats good to hear, hope okie laws are the same. Surely I can pass 20 questions. I don't really care about air endorsments but it would be nice not to have to take it again. I will contact DMV soon... Thanks guys.
