Moving from CA to MO, DOT questions.

We're moving from CA to MO & renting a 26 ft. 26k gvr International from Penske with a DT466 in it. Two questions: 1) Will I have to stop at every weight station? 2) I know nothing about the engine, is it decent?

I've never had to stop at a weigh station when using a rented truck for private purposes (moving). I think they are more concerned with the trucks on the road for business. They are the ones who are maintaining the sleep logs etc ...

Fruit and Bug stations are a different story though. I missed one going into Florida and they came to let me know !!

Can't help ya with the engine question, sorry.

Welcome to Missouri !!!

As far as the first question, just get in and drive and don't worry. They got bigger fish to fry than somebody in a moving van. If they stop you act stupid. I'd bet you won't be stoped.

As far as the second question, a Dt466 is a darn good engine, had a lot of them in roll backs. the one you will get is most likely very detuned, but one that is not detuned is great. Also, welcome to Missouri! Much better than Cal. We have no DOT hassle's in Missouri, they are pretty easy going. What part of Missouri are you going to live???

What's a CDL? You need a special license to drive a big truck? Dang, I knew I forgot something!

I know the regulations, I was just being a smart a$$. The most we normally gross for our business is 36k with the truck trailer and load. That is with a 1-ton dually and our 48' Take three stepdeck. We keep it plated for 24k or less and just risk getting an overweight ticket, which knock on wood, has never happened yet. When using a simaler rig on the farm I have grossed 44,000 but that is farm and the roads I travel at that weight the d.o.t. does not patrol.

Ya really. I am glad the law is not so harsh around here. Or maybe all those east and west coast guys just worry too much! I gross way more than a lot of these guys and have never been stoped, and I run all over Mo, Ia, Ks, Ar, Ok, Ill, Ky withou so much as being sneezed at. I think some guys worry too much, or they like to pretend like they are truckers so they want to worry about all this b.s. I have never even been on a scale.

We'll be picking up I80E in Sacramento & then I29S in Omaha to Kansas City.

As soon as we hit the NV state line, I'm gonna get out & kiss the sweet land of freedom!! How anyone would want to live in the Bay Area is beyond me!!! What a bunch of retards!!!!! But that's another subject.

We'll be crossing NV, UT, WY, NE, IA & MO. On our move out here I didn't stop at weight stations, but we were in a much smaller truck. I didn't think I
would have to stop in this truck, but I didn't want to take any chances.

The biggest non-CDL joke is the International pickups with airbrakes rated at 25,999 lbs.

I guess they have to put the limit somewhere which is why I can pull a 3 car trailer behind my truck with no CDL

I just made this trip (only the other direction) back in September when I towed my trail rig out to the Rubicon Trail to play. With all my gear, rig, tools, spares, etc., I had about 9K on the GN behind me. I-80 across Nebraska has got to be one of the all time most boring stretches of interstate in America. Do yourself a favor and pick up Hiway 2 in Lincoln, NE and run that over to Nebraska City. Then pick up I-29 there. That will save you a considerable amount of time and miles.

Thanks for the info, but I still own a house in Arlington, NE that my sister-in-law is renting from us & we'll probably stop by there before we head to KC.

Nothing to do with this thread, and I never drove I-80 across Nebraska, but my most boring vote is for I-90 across SD
