I was thinking about putting a gooseneck adapter on my fifthwheel but I'm not sure if I would be able to see the ball in the bed because of how long the cab is. Do you gooseneck pullers have a trick for this?

 

Line it up with the 2 middle bolts in your tailgate, works every time!

 

A buddy of mine has a neat trick. He slips a 3ft piece of foam pipe wrap over the ball and backs right up to it until it touches.

Are you able to hook up with the goose if your tailgate is up?

 

Woooow, First off you have to drop tailgate for gooseneck. Second, ITS NOT HARD BACKING UP LINING IT UP. There is stuff you can buy for 20 bucks or use the foam pipe or paper towel cardboard pipe but cmon peeps, ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!

 

NOOOOOO, you definitely lower tailgate, once lowered you should be able to see the bolts that are out towards the upper edge of the tailgate. Thats about all I could see from the driver seat of my mega, so I learned that when I backed up to the hitch, line it up between those 2 center bolts that it was the center, and I'd be right on every time.

 

LMAO..... BOut fell off my chair..... Yep I just line up the bolts on my tailgate... WOrks everytime...

 

I just use my mirrors to see if I am centered. After you do it a few times it becomes easy.

 

I use one of those long handled magnets that you use for picking up nuts, nails etc. Just set it in front of the truck ball and back up until the handle moves.

 

I just line it up with the sides of the truck, have an old ford side mirror I vise grip/clamp to the bed rail to look at the ball/hitch itself. If you are looking in your rear view mirror just center it with the center headrest on the back seat. The tailgate has to be down. I converted my 5th wheel to a GN earlier this year, am SO glad I did, now just pop the ball up when needed, no more 5th hitch taking up all the bed space and having to pull it when I need to use the bed.

As others have said, I just centre the trailer in the mirrors of the truck, then look back 'till the neck is about over the ball. After the first couple of times it's easy.

It's certainly no harder than hooking to a bumper pull trailer, in fact much easier.

 

Do they even make such an adapter???

 

the trick i learned (from guys here) that works every time for me is i open my rear slider 1/2 way so the latch is in the middle. then i watch in the rear view and line up the latch with the GN.
