Mega Cab & Pullrite Slider
Mega Cab & Pullrite Slider
After reading numerous posts, it appears that with a Pullrite Slider and a standard width fifth wheel, there shouldn't be any problems with this configuration? Also I did notice that both the Pullrite 14k and 18k slide up to 14", whereas the 24k slides 18". Assuming that the 24k fits in the bed, would there be any reason not to instal it, and have the additional 4" of slide?
Are there any other concerns to be aware of?

I have a short box Dodge and just purchased a 24k Pullrite Superglide about 6 months ago.
I debated the 18k vs 24k also.
- The 24k model is about $1000 more than the 18k with the mounting kit.
- The 24k is much heavier than the 18k. The 24k is about 350lbs total. It does not break down and 2 guys cannot lift it out.
I use an engine hoist to remove it from the truck.
- the 24k is much larger and takes up more room in the box.
- the 24k does not use separate bed rails. This makes for less "pieces" to the hitch for less slop & rattle from the hitch when towing.
Despite all that, I still purchased the 24k model. I installed it myself. The hitch and brackets are very heavy duty & very well made.
The underbed brackets are time consuming to line up but not hard. Our 5th wheel is only about 12k lbs but knowing me, if I bought an 18k hitch we would be looking at 19k trailers next year.
The peace of mind with this hitch is fantastic. Just hook up & drive.
I am using the recommended spray on dry lube, Slip Plate, and it is easy and clean.
Don't forget that you need a hitch adapter plate for your 5th wheel king pin.
I have a Mor/ryde pin box and the Pullrite adapter plate easily bolts on in a few minutes.
Prices for these hitches vary greatly & are available much less than the MSRP on the Pulltire website..
Shop Ebay, on-line Rv parts stores and locally to find your best price.
I hope this helps.. Joe

Just installed the 18K, did it myself because a couple of members here shamed me into it. But really it's not that bad and i figured i could just needed to be motivated. Only hooked up to the camper once so far, just to relocate it where it is stored, so no real feed back on that yet but it seemed to look like it was working. Main thing is to follow instructions, there help line sucks, and use proper lube, like others have mentioned. 18K is heavy also, two man job, but it was the $1000 diff. that made me go this route and not the 24K. I read a lot of posts on this before making purchase, and trust me the hitch is gonna pay for itself. My 03 had to have a rear window and body work done because of contact. It would have been the same price as the hitch. Go for it.
Whichever you choose, do yourself a favor and install a hoist in your garage to get the sucker in and out. You can get a decent electric cable model from Harbor Freight for under $100. I started out with the chain model and for something like $20 more, I got the electric model. What a difference.

i have a 16K pullrite that is no longer made and a air ride pin box. it makes the ride alot better and allows me to make any turn i want. it does get close to the cab but does not hit on a 90 deg. turn. if you do have a pullrite hitch do yourself a favor and buy some slip plate. http://www.slipplate.com/products/products_Aerosol.htm it lubes up the rails and does not attrack dirt like many other lubes.
Or you could go with the 5th Airborne Sidewinder and a regular hitch. I have used mine quite alot and it gives full 90* turns with no need to grease or lube anything. It mounts to the trailers pinbox and can be used for about any hitch. Scotty
